D uring hissenior year of high school, Sebastian Pena '20-2067 had a monumental question to answer: Do I stay in Colombia or go somewhere in America for college? Sebastian's interest in attending school in the United States was sparked by the cultural differences he'd encounter. He also knew he could find many opportunities; however, this would come at the price of leaving everything and everyone he'd ever known. After a long thought process, and with the support of his family and friends, Sebastian left his hometown of Bogota to attend Oregon State University. Upon arriving in Corvallis for the 2019 fall term, Sebastian found himself stuck in a wave of depression. At one point, Sebastian had even packed his bags and prepared to transfer to UCLA, believing it was Oregon State that had let him down. However, he decided to stay and that's when Sebastian was introduced to Lambda Chi Alpha. Sebastian had the pleasure of meeting Payton Churilla '19-2034 and Ben Meyer '19-2025 on campus and was invited over to visit Lambda Chi. Through that visit, Sebastian decided to participate in informal recruitment. After he was offered a bid, Sebastian was excited to join the brotherhood and hasn't looked back. "After I joined last fall, it was the first time in a long time that I was truly happy and enjoying my time at Oregon State," Sebastian said. "Lambda Chi became like a second home for me and the brothers became my second family. I decided to stop my transfer process after joining because it felt like I belonged here. If it wasn't for Lambda Chi, I may have dropped out of college, and my life could have been very different from what it is right now. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of this brotherhood." Sebastian is not the only international student who is currently part of the Lambda Chi brotherhood at Oregon State. Fidel Sanchez '19-2032 is from Panama City, Panama, Sebastian Diez '19-2045 is from Sydney, Australia, Felipe Picon '20-2052 is from Cucuta, Colombia, and Harry Winsper '20- 2053 is from New Castle, United Kingdom.
