Pi Beta Phi, University of Minnesota P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested P B F 1890 S ince the chapter's establishment in 1890, Minnesota Alpha has persevered through decades of historic change. This past year has been no different, and with the support of our strong bonds and sisterhood we have made the most of this unprecedented year. After Pi Beta Phi Headquarters introduced a new leadership structure for 2020, the spring semester kicked off with 24 new chapter leaders of Minnesota Alpha. In January, I attended Pi Phi's College Weekend alongside Vice President Operations Caitlin Stephan '18 and Vice President Finance/Housing Olivia Devin '18 to gain ideas from chapters across the country and explore new possibilities for this leadership team. Last spring, 19 Pi Phi women also set out on their journeys abroad to the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and France. They enjoyed adventures together, exploring new cities and taking in the culture of each unique place they visited. Although their time was cut short, the women came home with countless stories to share during our "Angels Abroad" themed Monday night meeting. Back home in Minneapolis, we enjoyed writing letters to our sisters abroad and reconnecting as a chapter in the new year. We kicked off 2020 with the inaugural Sweethearts Dinner, which gave live-ins the chance to invite dates to the house for a three-course Valentine's dinner cooked by our lovely Chef Graham. In February, we also had our Spring Date Party at Dave and Buster's — a Pi Phi favorite. Weathering the Storm In March, the women of Pi Phi, along with the rest of the University of Minnesota students, were sent home due to COVID-19. However, we continued connecting virtually each Monday with an innovative "Programming Night" series. This series gave each Chapter Leadership Team the opportunity to create their own meeting theme. Meetings featured career development speakers, a virtual card-making sisterhood event for the children's hospital, a recruitment workshop and advice from a health and wellness coach. Alice Peterson '17 even hosted a chapter-wide virtual yoga class! The spring semester came to a close with our annual senior send-off, this year through Zoom. Active members read letters to seniors, which was arguably just as emotional as the in- person send-offs of previous years. Annabelle Lohrenz '17 received the Amy Burnham Onken Award, and Jill Yazejian '16 received the Jean Wirths Scott Award — each for their incredible commitments to positive change, community service and scholarship excellence. Wrapping up the spring semester's achievements, we received the second-highest sorority GPA on campus with 29 women achieving a 4.0. This fall we prepared for the "new normal" with masks, protocols and virtual meetings to keep everyone safe. Although Spirit Week looked a little different this year with a fully online format, morale remained high with a school supplies drive for the Boys & Girls Club of Minneapolis and a pajama-themed snow cone truck sisterhood on the front lawn. After a week of virtual recruitment through Zoom, we welcomed home 50 new Pi Phis through our virtual Bid Day event! This fall also marked the addition of a new leadership position: Madisen Rogers '18 is now our Director Diversity and Inclusion, and the chapter could not be more excited to see the positive change she will make in this new role. While this new school year looks different for each of us, we are enjoying a safe semester together. In Pi Phi, Olivia Anderson '18, Chapter President (612) 516-7285 | and06248@umn.edu Minnesota Alpha Sisters Face 2020's Challenges Together Chloe Chumbler '17 ready for the first day of virtual recruitment. This year's llive-in members took a break from recruitment practice for the snow cone pajama-themed sisterhood.
