A s members of Delta Kappa scattered for spring break in March, the news was bleak and about to get worse. OU was considering a move to online-only classes and closing university housing to all but those with no other place to go due to the novel coronavirus. COVID-19 had just entered our country's consciousness in Oklahoma City when Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz tested positive before a game with the OKC Thunder. As it developed, the university pulled the plug as members returned from spring break and the ATΩ chapter house closed. The Delta Kappa alumni board worked with the active chapter to develop a plan to end the semester and keep our undergraduate brothers healthy. Shortly after that, we got to work on a plan to reopen this fall once OU announced it would hold in-person classes for the semester. The Housing Corporation and Board of Trustees formed a task force to collect the best information possible and work with the active chapter on a reopening plan. After many long hours of Zoom meetings and a multitude of meetings and webinars provided by the university, ATΩ National, and national Greek life leaders such as Pennington & Company, a plan was developed. The common areas of the chapter house were reconfigured to suit maximum occupancy limits, hand sanitizing stations were installed, masks are mandatory, social distancing is encouraged, and food service now complies with CDC guidelines. Those are just some of the main things that are being enforced to keep brothers safe. It was truly a team effort and allowed the chapter to have a successful move-in and recruitment. Many thanks to task force members Blake Herndon '79 and James Benson '07 from the Board of Trustees, Chad McDougall '89 and Mike Carter '76 from the Housing Corporation, Property Manager Randy Woods '75, Chapter Advisor Cameron Burleson '14, House Corporation Treasurer and now Live-in Property Manager Tony Montalvo '12, and chapter leaders Nick Armato '18, Hunter Frazier '17, and Matt Moore '18.
