A SLICE OF PI GAMMA PHI BETA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN • SPRING 2020 F all is my favorite season. In reflection, I truly believe I feel this way based on my time as an undergraduate and member of Pi Chapter—recruitment, fall athletics, cooler weather, sisterhood events, and embarking on a semester of new and challenging academic classes. This fall, our members are experiencing a very different reality. COVID-19 has posed many challenges for our undergraduate leadership, current members, and Pi Chapter's Affiliated Housing Corporation (AHC) Board. To say that I am impressed with the leadership demonstrated is an understatement. Our undergraduate leaders have taken this challenge head-on, dedicating themselves to the continued safety of our members. Alumnae are stepping up to assist, whether it's through time or funds to assist sisters who find themselves in financial hardship. Members held a successful virtual recruitment (who knew that was possible!) and are diligently following the rules and recommendations to ensure that Pi Chapter is a safe environment for our members. It is a privilege to serve as president of the AHC board, and even more so to be an alumna during these unique and uncertain times. This newsletter will provide insight into Pi Chapter's activities and the new members recently welcomed this fall. Even though things may look a little different this year, I am certain it will be an exceptional year full of talent, energy, and most importantly, memories. This summer, your AHC board finalized several large projects aimed to extend the beauty and life of our home: a beautiful dining room renovation including new tables, new landscaping, cement work, and outdoor lighting to feature the front of our home— often one's first impression. We are incredibly grateful for the many donations received to complete the dining room renovation. Thank you! By honoring the past and seeking the counsel of our sisters at Cooper & Co., the final product was a hit and served as a highlight during virtual recruitment and for our undergraduate members. As we look to the future, we expect projects to consist primarily of repairs and general maintenance. While these can be less aesthetically pleasing and exciting, they remain imperative to ensure the functionality and continued use of our home for all sisters. As a board, we remain vigilant to utilize our financial resources in a prudent manner. We are more thankful than ever for the years of sound stewardship; Pi Chapter's financial situation is healthy and not in question. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to Pi Chapter. Please consider supporting our current sisters facing financial hardships brought on by the unprecedented pandemic by donating to the 415 Fund. Fortunately, she found a company she admired, where she started in an entry-level position as a coach support specialist. She moved into a recruiter role in human resources and eventually worked in sales. Then, she moved to Denver and took a job at a software company as a recruiter before moving into training and development. Before she moved back home to Nebraska, however, Hannah spent time as chapter advisor for Theta Chapter at the University of Denver. Through job changes and moves, one thing has remained constant—the support of the Gamma Phi Beta sisterhood. "When I moved to Denver, I wanted to find a way to connect to like-minded women, so Gamma Phi was the first place I looked," Hannah shared. "I didn't intend to be chapter advisor, but I'm so thankful for the challenge." During her time with Pi Chapter as an undergraduate, Hannah had amazing mentors, so she enjoyed being able to pay The Lifelong Benefits of Gamma Phi Beta Pi Chapter Prepared Hannah Riggle '10 for Professional Success, Afforded Lasting Friendships (Continued on page 2)
