I was recruited by a good friend of mine. The men of Phi Delta Theta are great people who became great friends. There wasn't a day that went by that those relationships didn't influence me. In fact, the relationships and continued contact with these guys shape me even today. What are you most proud of in your career and family life? I have had a wonderful career in commercial retail/multi-family real estate that continues to expand and progress. My family is key in my life. I can't go a day without thinking about how my boys have grown into wonderful men. It's a blessing. What are some of your favorite memories of Missouri Alpha? There are too many to call out a favorite. I can tell you that "Ed Numbe" had a lot to do with many. Have you stayed involved with Phi Delt as an alumnus? I keep in touch with many brothers—in fact, most of the friends I surround myself with are Phi Delts. I was on the advisory board for 2-3 years after graduating, and I enjoyed working with the younger brothers. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Fly-fishing, hanging out with my wife and boys, and playing mandolin. Do you have a favorite quote, or someone who consistently inspires you? "I was on the verge of jumping into one of those holes in life out of which we emerge a bit tattered and bloody, though we remain sure nonetheless that we had to make the jump." Jim lives in Columbia, Missouri, and has worked in the commercial real estate industry for decades. He can be reached at jalabach@icloud.com. Eric Allen '24 Dexter, Mo.
