MO ALPHA PHI M I S S O U R I A L P H A C H A P T E R O F P H I D E L T A T H E T A THE UNIVERSIT Y OF MISSOURI FALL 2020 The I n the midst of the pandemic, Missouri Alpha Chapter adapted its events to accommodate public health guidelines. We were still able to have our informal recruitment events in St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, and Columbia in much smaller and socially distanced groups. The number of signees this summer was comparable to previous summers. Besides recruitment over the summer, we placed extra emphasis on virtual brotherhood. Luckily, we have members who are very flexible and willing to adapt to doing things such as Zoom hangouts or online gaming tournaments. These events might be smaller in scale, but they allow our members to stay engaged with one another even while separated by distance. Prior to the fall semester, plans were finalized to make the chapter house safe for our members' return. Staggered move-in dates, sanitizing stations, mask policies, and restricted guest policies all made things run smoothly as members moved in. These COVID-19 policies are still in place to ensure the safety of our members as well as the safety of the Columbia community. Our biggest priority is to keep everyone safe and abide by all University of Missouri and public health guidelines. We are figuring out how philanthropy will play into this. While we would love to have events as usual, we understand that this may not be possible this semester. So, we have been looking into online fundraising opportunities, volunteering where we can keep social distance, and raising awareness for ALS and other organizations as much as possible remotely. We are very blessed as a chapter to have the number of members that we do, and we are trying to have all hands on deck in this strange time. Our brothers are learning to thrive in a virtual learning environment. We had our first experience with online schooling last spring when universities across the country, including Mizzou, went virtual. We led all IFC chapters that reported more than 20 members with a 3.72 chapter GPA. We are incredibly proud of this and are extending all the same resources and more to our members so they can pursue the best education possible. This semester, both professors and students are more prepared. There are still some classes held in person with social distancing and reduced class sizes, but for the most part classes are online. We can't wait until we can all be together again and look forward to making the most of this academic year.
