5 Alpha Delta Pi I f you would have asked me how I thought 2020 recruitment would look, my answer would have been nowhere near cor- rect. As we began work week, we expected recruitment to be in person. But, on Wednesday during spirit week, we received news that recruitment was shifted to a fully virtual option. We now had only four days to completely switch gears. As one of the first Alpha Delta Pi chapters to recruit virtually, it was uncharted waters. I had to assemble a virtual recruitment team who would work alongside me and the recruitment analyst to make sure members ended up in the correct place on Zoom with a potential new member. Learning how to operate Zoom and finding adequate WIFI was a big challenge. We quickly had to find places for our 100 mem- bers to recruit. We had members on campus using hotspots, at the Wesley Foundation, and at the homes of our alumnae. If you are reading this as an alumna who let us use your house during the day, I cannot put into words how grateful I am for your will- ingness to help and sacrifice your WIFI during that week. We had several mock recruitments with other chapters to figure out the best way to utilize Zoom for our chapter's needs. Mon- day morning was stressful, but our recruitment parties went flaw- lessly and exceeded all my expectations. I cannot express how proud I am of every current AO for their adaptability and their patience with me and the entire recruitment team. Bid Day 2020 was also very different, and we welcomed home 60 Alpha members (10 members over chapter total). We were allowed to have in-person bid day as long as we registered the event with the school and followed all CDC and Payne County guidelines. Our Bid Day chairs, Audrey Self '17 and Maddie Wells '18, did a phenomenal job planning and executing a safe bid day for all. Our theme was "Honey I'm Home" and I encour- age you to check out social media to see all of the fun pictures and videos! Overall, to say I was a ball of nerves is an understatement, but we did it! Recruitment has so many moving parts and none of this would have been as successful without my incredible advisor, Rebecca Medina Cole '94. I am so proud of the Alpha Omicron women I get to call my sisters and I cannot wait to see what is in store for them next recruitment season! LNL, Emily Schumacher '17 Director of Primary Recruitment Real Success in Virtual Recruitment AO Welcomes Home New Alphas Dinners, Virtual Game Nights, and Sisterhood Events AO Continues to Safely Create Strong Bonds This Fall A lthough we continue to live in a time of great uncertainty, the Alpha Omicron Chapter is thrilled to be back on the Oklahoma State University campus! With our spring semester cut short due to COVID-19, we were challenged to find new and creative ways to stay engaged during our separation. While in quarantine, we held Netflix movie nights, game nights, workout sessions and even a show and tell—pet edition! Now that we are back in Stillwater together, we still find ourselves challenged to stay connected, while following all guidelines to best remain safe and healthy. Beginning in August, we held a successful virtual recruitment and welcomed an incredible Alpha class, complete with a "Honey, I'm Home" bid day theme. During the second week of school, we held our first sisterhood dinner, with the support of a longtime Stillwater favorite dining spot, Hideaway Pizza! We even got surprise goodie bags from our Parent's Club, which was quite the treat! We plan to continue our sisterhood dinners throughout the fall, allowing us the forum to further get to know one another while sharing a meal together. Additionally, our sisterhood chairman is working hard on developing engaging and COVID-19 friendly sisterhood events for the chapter. One event we have planned is a clipboard decorating activity, which I know will be a favorite! Fortunately, our new Alphas have been able to carry on the freshman tradition of "coke dates" with the fraternities, while still adhering to all the necessary safety guidelines. So far, they have been taken out for ice cream, were serenaded and received roses, shared sodas at The Barn and participated in a tie dye t-shirt date! The next exciting event for our Alphas is our Big/Little reveal. This year's theme is "Dynamic Duo." Our Alphas will be paired with their perfect Big, get to dress up as a "team" and begin establishing the foundation for a lifetime friendship together. As you can see, even in the midst of a pandemic, we still plan to have an eventful, yet safe, fall semester here at Alpha Delta Pi! Sarah Shepard '17 Chapter President president.ao@gmail.com
