Georgia Alpha Chapter of Pi Beta Phi University of Georgia P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested Memories on Milledge Linking Georgia Alpha Pi Phis I n these unprecedented times, it has been more important than ever for Pi Phi to be in constant communication with each other. Whether it's between myself and the Chapter Leadership Team, our Executive Council and the chapter or our Panhellenic Executive Council and our Potential New Members (PNMs), we have been discovering new ways to connect. Panhellenic Formal Recruitment looked a little different this year than in years past. Round one traditionally involves two full days of meeting all 1,500-plus PNMs face-to-face at the 886 — plus singing and chanting. This year, PNMs sent in videos of themselves, including an introduction, their likes and dislikes, embarrassing memories, etc. Rounds two, three and the Preference Round were all done on Zoom, where PNMs and active members met one-on-one with each other in breakout rooms; this made for personable experiences in spite of current limitations. Bid Day also got an overhaul as we switched to a virtual bid card reveal and events. Active sisters met with their New Members in small groups or one-on-one, on and off campus. Sisters organized scavenger hunts, picnics and trips to get ice cream. Although this was not what we had originally planned, all members and New Members had a wonderful day! Overall, despite the many challenges, this was the best recruitment UGA Panhellenic has ever had; 1,570 women found their homes this year! Georgia Alpha welcomed home 88 new angels this recruitment, and we are so happy to have them. Due to COVID-19, our live-in sisters have adapted to new rules in the chapter house. CDC guidelines are strictly enforced; this includes mandatory masks in all commons spaces and hallways, eating dinner in shifts and no out-of-house members allowed inside the house. All chapter business that would be done in the house is now held via Zoom meetings. Although this has been a difficult adjustment, our women are so thankful to have the opportunity to be all together, even if that now looks a little different. While we do not have all the answers for how exactly sisterhood events, game days, date nights and initiation will look, we are in constant contact to ensure that our members feel loved and supported in this sisterhood. We are looking forward to another amazing year at the 886 and all the new challenges and fun that will come with it.
