FARMHOUSE FRATERNITY 2 Introducing the 1911 Brotherhood Appeal N ebraska Chapter is excited to announce a new way for alumni to support their fraternity: the 1911 Brotherhood Appeal. This annual fund drive, set to launch in 2021, is named after the year of our founding and emphasizes the fact that we are the longest ongoing FarmHouse chapter. Each year, alumni can support the appeal by donating at least $1 for each year in our history: $110 in 2021, $111 in 2022, and so on. Donations will be earmarked for two areas: long-term maintenance or a special need for the house (e.g., a new television or freezer). More information to come in our 2021 mailings. BRINGING THE BROTHERHOOD TOGETHER M ost of us learned quickly that becoming a Nebraska FarmHouse member is a lifelong association. Many of our Nebraska alumni regularly gather to renew friendships or make new ones. To enhance these bonds, the Nebraska Alumni Board brotherhood committee intends to increase the interaction among alumni nationwide. The committee developed a roster of alumni sorted by region and community. Soon, the committee will ask for volunteers from each region to organize local events. Regional leaders will coordinate Husker viewing events, cocktail parties, or other gatherings at least annually to strengthen our alumni brotherhood. In addition, the committee hopes to keep undergraduates aware of the many professions, businesses, and careers represented by our alumni. This will create opportunities for networking, mentoring, internships, or careers as our active brothers begin to navigate their professional lives. Alumni are important to the long-term success of our fraternity. Let's work hard to strengthen our bond. If you would like to volunteer as an alumni coordinator for your region, please contact Steve England '66 at sengland@ipexneb.com or Sid Pinney '81 at sidpinney@gmail.com. We will also provide more information in future mailings. O ne of the most important skills that I have developed through FarmHouse is perseverance in the face of adversity. I'll admit, COVID-19 and the challenges that came with it were not encompassed in my idea of adversity before this spring. I am proud of undergraduates and alumni alike for coming together and confronting these challenges throughout the year. It has truly been a group effort to maintain our status as Builders of Men. I am once again proud to report that our chapter ranked first among UNL fraternities with a semester GPA of 3.728 (slightly inflated from the UNL policy allowing all classes to be taken pass/fail this spring). This is the ninth semester in a row that we have achieved the top ranking. So far in the fall semester, there have been even more new challenges as classes begin with in-person and online components. I am confident in our members' ability to overcome these challenges and maintain their academic excellence. Our organization is intrinsically social, so it has been a major goal of ours to continue safely promoting brotherhood. We were incredibly grateful to our Mother's Auxiliary group for purchasing several outdoor games and giving us smart and safe opportunities to grow closer as friends. Though this semester may look and feel much different than semesters' past, the men of FarmHouse set high goals for themselves in the four pillars and look forward to a successful and fruitful fall. Thank you for your continued support of our fraternity.
