FARMHOUSE FRATERNITY Nebraska Chapter / University of Nebraska-Lincoln www.nebraskafarmhouse.org Fall 2020 M uch like the rest of the country, it's been a very busy few months for the Association Board. The newly formed risk committee has been instrumental in working with the Nebraska Chapter to develop COVID-19 guidelines. Many hours were spent in online meetings with UNL Greek Affairs as well as FarmHouse International to learn the requirements of those entities. Through these discussions, we developed and implemented a safe but flexible plan. This school year is already very different, but hopefully our active brothers remain in session. Both the Association Board and the chapter are undergoing significant restructures. Board member Steve England '66 and alumni attorney Jesse Sitz '96 have taken the lead to ensure the UNL FarmHouse entities stay current as liability and legal recommendations evolve. After a plan is drafted and approved by the board, it will go to a vote of all alumni at, we hope, an upcoming spring event. Additionally, two longtime board members are retiring at the end of the year. I would like to thank Bob Nordstrom '74 and Dave Rasmussen '70 for their numerous years of service. We have found one replacement but are still in need of a second. If you are interested in joining the board to help tackle issues of the future, please contact me. The biggest difference took place in May; many restaurants were still closed, so the recruitment team had to improvise. We held Zoom meetings with members, filmed a house tour for Facebook, and safely gathered at outdoor venues when possible. We also traveled to some potential new members' (PNM) hometowns because we found that incoming freshmen appreciated us taking the time to see them in person. Fortunately, we were still able to hold recruitment events as long as they were at outdoor venues where social distancing could occur. This was an excellent way for PNMs to meet the rest of the brothers and get a feel for our fraternity as a whole. Ultimately, the team was pleased with the results. We met well over 75 PNMs, and we had room for 27 new members due to limitations on living in the chapter house. Out of our 27-person pledge class, two happened to be sophomores, and the rest were incoming freshmen from around Nebraska—plus one from Chicago. We look forward to signing more new members in the spring as a few new spots become available in the house.
