Akins finished 1-for-2 batting with an RBI on the day. NBCS With a Sac River League title already in its pocket, the Red Bluff Spartans softball team had little to play for on Friday. Except for one thing. An unblemished league record. But after dropping two games in a doubleheader on Tuesday to the Spartans (27-6, 11-1 SRL), the Shasta Wolves (21-8, 6-3 SRL) came in pitching strong, hitting well and avenged their losses with a 3-2 win at Red Bluff High School. "When you win against Red Bluff, you really feel like you accomplished something," Shasta coach Karen Fifield said. Wolves pitcher Alex Silva struck out 12 batters in the win and impressively stomped out Spartan threats in the first three innings, when Red Bluff had runners on third with one out. "You know, we don't have (Silva), I don't think we (win)," Fifield said, adding, "She did a fabulous job. Coming off two losses in which he allowed 11 earned runs and 13 hits in 11 innings, Griffin was smooth on the mound, too. Saturday L.A. Red Bluff coach J Howell said his team didn't play with the same focus or energy it showed on Tuesday in the doubleheader sweep, which netted the Spartans an outright league championship. Red Bluff also will likely start off as hosts in the Northern Section Division III playoffs. "As well as we've been playing the last three weeks, we were kind of entitled to have a stinker today," Howell said.
