The Return to 3000 University Avenue Alpha Tau Omega • Delta Nu Chapter • University of North Dakota M any said it was not possible. Some thought the slope too steep. Still others questioned—and understandably so— whether alumni interest had waned over time for want of Chapter communication. Then this virus from afar was suddenly in our own backyard and the most optimistic had doubts, silently kept. But it was possible. The financial challenge, while steep, was not insurmountable. Alumni relationships were joyfully rekindled. And this pervasive pandemic did not infect deep-rooted alumni commitment. On August 15, the city of Grand Forks will issue a Certificate of Occupancy. The new house will be completed. The doors of Delta Nu will open again—spectacularly designed, functionally efficient, fully furnished, and state of the art construction. You guys—fellow ATΩ brothers—made this dream come true. Thank you. Thank you. Debt free? Not quite yet, but we will be. As of our press deadline, you—our loyal alumni—have given over $3.1 million... with $275,000 needed to build without a mortgage. Great things can and will happen if the Chapter does not have to deal with debt. A pledge form is enclosed. It lacks three things: your name, your gift, and postage. Help us cross the finish line. Make it happen today. It will be a difficult challenge, but it is an obstacle we can overcome with proper planning and a commitment toward mutual responsibility in the return of ATΩ brothers to our true home on campus. KEY AREAS AFFECTED BY COVID-19: A RETURN TO CAMPUS We are working toward the final phase of construction at 3000 University Avenue and are taking steps to ensure the safety of our members by implementing protocols consistent with UND policies and the North Dakota Department of Health. A last-minute addition to the new house construction is a series of 7 UV-C lights, one for each furnace, to neutralize a broad range of microorganisms and other dangerous pathogens, hopefully helping to disinfect high-risk indoor settings. By the time of the new house opening, the Chapter and Board of Trustees will be knowledgeable of the protocols needed to effectively secure the house and educate the members on risk avoidance, including restricted house access rules and procedures. The house manager will have access to sanitization products to sterilize the environment, including sanitizer stations and disinfecting wipes. In addition, we will establish an active system of monitoring to proactively screen for the suspicion of infection. The live-in resident manager (we are developing a job description and will advertise for the position soon) will be knowledgeable about preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the chapter house. As a proactive part of the effort of monitoring, we have also enlisted 50% of the chapter into the UND Sentinel Program, which is a repeated series of COVID tests performed for free through the university, allowing UND to better monitor the state of asymptomatic carriers on campus and better assess overall risk. A Message from UND President Andrew Armacost Delta Nu Chapter Members and Alumni, I want to extend my congratulations to all of you on the completion of your new chapter house at 3000 University Avenue. Since arriving on campus in mid-June, my wife, Kathy, and I have watched construction on the facility progress during our walks down University Avenue. The exterior of the house is beautiful and I can't wait to see the interior! The collegiate gothic style of the new ATΩ house is consistent with the architectural style of many buildings on UND's campus—it is definitely a UND fraternity house! While building a new chapter house is something to be proud of, building a chapter house that is debt free is an accomplishment of a whole other level. My thanks to the many ATΩ alumni who gave generously in order to make the new chapter house a reality. Your investment in your fraternity and UND students is greatly appreciated. I hope the ATΩ members who call the house home during the coming school year and in the years to come will take pride in their membership and the chapter house. The new chapter house is a wonderful addition to University Avenue and is a testament to the dedication and pride that ATΩ members and alumni have in UND and their brotherhood. Again, my congratulations to you all on the new chapter house. Sincerely, Andrew Armacost, UND President
