Always ink of KD 2 Recruitment Goes on Virtually O ver the summer, Kappa Alpha Chapter Advisory Board members, the House Corporation, and Chapter leaders worked overtime to adjust to the new protocols and regulations. Guidance has come from National Kappa Delta, Florida State University, MJ Insurance, the CDC, and state and local guidelines. Recruitment will be an all-virtual experience at most universities across the nation, including Florida State. Registration numbers are similar to last year, and we expect a healthy new member quota. While we won't see KD sisters standing in lineups on the stairs, singing on the front yard, or doors thrown open to bring potential new members into our home, sisters will be on video conference recruitment parties searching for our newest KD members. We are implementing new systems of sanitization, upgrading broadband connections, and incorporating new safety protocols to ensure our sisters and the Chapter House are well protected. To learn more, you can view the full recruitment plan at www.FloridaStatePH.com. As we enter a new normal this fall with new protocols, more virtual programming, and masks, I encourage everyone to remember our beloved chambered nautilus, a timeless symbol of growth and evolution. Now more than ever, we will all lean into our incredible sisterhood to find strength to grow and change together. Alli Liby-Schoonover '03 Kappa Alpha Chapter Advisory Board Chairman Kappa Delta Establishes Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee A cross the country, Americans are dealing individually, as families, and as communities with social and racial injustice and their personal feelings and resolve. at passion is elevated on our college campuses. Kappa Alpha Chapter's leadership and members discussed from the onset how they felt and how they would communicate their position. Collectively, we felt that Kappa Delta National's statement and plans mirrored our thoughts: Kappa Delta sisters represent many backgrounds, races and cultures and yet we acknowledge that our membership is predominantly white with many members who benefit from white privilege. To our black sisters and to all of our sisters of color, most of us cannot begin to understand how you are feeling, but we see you, we value you, and we stand with you. Our sisterhood is stronger because of you, and we cannot stay silent about the injustices and discrimination you face because of the color of your skin. Kappa Delta's leadership remains committed to doing the hard work to help end racial injustice and reaffirm our open motto to strive for all that is honorable, beautiful and highest. Kappa Delta has established a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. e DE&I Committee will be guided by the values of Kappa Delta: encouraging members to live with integrity and honor in the bonds of lifelong friendship; building confidence in members to excel in college and throughout their lives; inspiring member to be active leaders, responsible citizens, and engaged members of the community; and providing opportunities and experiences that foster personal and professional growth for a lifetime. Y our House Corporation and House Director Landis Gallman worked hard prepping the Chapter House for reopening while adhering to the university, city, and state safety guidelines. New contracts with College Fresh Food and Quality Cleaning Services have been signed to better comply with updated CDC guidelines. Distance markers, signage, and sanitizer stations are being set up with PPE supplies ordered. Move-in and meal schedules are to be coordinated with the Chapter President, House Manager, and the newly established Pandemic Communications Committee. At the time of this writing, we are planning for ALL in-house and out-of-house members, as well as new members, to be allowed to eat at the Chapter House seven days per week. Beautiful Nautilus masks have been ordered for the women to wear on the premises. Our internet system has been upgraded with a new router to better handle virtual recruitment, reporting, and online course requirements. UV lights have been installed in the 13 heat and air conditioning systems to improve air quality by eliminating virus-causing microbes before they move through the air-ducts throughout the house. e recruitment team is setting up for the new virtual process to meet potential new members in the first couple of rounds. Masks and social distancing are required for all participants. Chapter meetings will be mostly virtual and definitely distanced and limited for those attending in-person. We have also decided to close the house at anksgiving as Florida State will be requiring all classes move to virtual format aer that with no returns to campus to help prevent further spread of the virus. We are proud of our collegians as they develop the new normal to still provide a viable and valuable sisterhood, leadership, and philanthropic lifelong experience through our Kappa Alpha Chapter!
