4 DTD THE CORDELT D espite the COVID-19 crisis forcing Beta Omicron Delts to depart early from the East Hill, the brotherly bonds between us have persevered. We have kept many aspects of campus life that the Shelter provides alive through Zoom calls, which have allowed to virtually hold weekly chapters, hanging out in the TV room (now the TV Zoom), doing work with one another, and hanging out after classes. We've still put in the necessary work to ensure that we hit the ground running when we return to campus through thorough planning and helping the Ithaca community. SCHOLASTIC STRIDES With brothers helping brothers, academic efforts at Beta Omicron have flourished and resulted in the rising of our GPA to 3.41. This demonstrates an upward trend from past semesters and we hope to keep climbing through improved academic support programs established by Director of Academic Affairs Benjamin Posnick '21. In a demonstration of our dedication to excellence in academics, a multitude of brothers are involved in a wide array of courses as members of the course staff. These include the following brothers: Brandon Stein '21 (Consultant, CS 4700: Foundations of Artificial Intelligence), Matthew Frucht '21 (Consultant, CS 1110: Introduction to Computing Using Python), Benjamin Posnick '21 (Head TA for Virtual Instruction, CS 2110: OO Programming and Data Structures), Arjun Bhalla '20 (TA, INFO/CS 4300: Language and Information; TA, HADM 4300: Introduction to Wines), Justin Kim '20 (TA, HADM 4300: Introduction to Wines), Ethan Blum '21 ( TA, BME 2110: Biomolecular Thermodynamics), and Jayansh Bhartiya '22 (Consultant, CS 1110: Introduction to Computing Using Python). SUPPORTING THOSE IN NEED Our philanthropic efforts have also remained strong despite not having the luxury of hosting events at the Shelter in the spring. Brothers from New York to Delhi reached out to their Instagram followers and Facebook friends to raise over $100 in a day and a half. All the money raised by Beta Omicron and Cornell fraternities and sororities went to Dos Amigos, a food truck in Ithaca that worked with the Greek community to provide food to frontline workers during this pandemic. If we're allowed to return to campus for in-person classes this fall, Philanthropy Chairmen Rishabh Sabu '21 and Alan Zhang '22 have organized events such as Dunk-a-Delt (Delts getting in a dunk tank to raise money for JDRF), local food shelter visits, and the annual backyard barbecue. Bryce Roth '22, Ahmed El Sammak '21, Arjun Bhalla '20, Hunter Seitz '20, Jake Polacek '21, David Wolfers '23, Joo Kim '23, John Grover '20, Chelsea Hiciano '20, Carolyn Roche '20, Stephen Tse '21, Dan Morton '21, Leena Sen '21, and sweethearts enjoy some of the last days on campus before heading home to finish the spring semester virtually. Matt Frucht '21, Jake Polacek '21, Bryce Roth '22, Ryan Begin '23, Brandon Stein '21, Arjun Bhalla '20, Dan Morton '21, and John Grover '20 take advantage of a rare snow day by sled- ding down the slope. UNDERGRADUATE BROTHERS MAKE THE MOST OF A CHALLENGING SPRING SEMESTER DELTS OF DIVERSITY Despite lower numbers around campus during recruitment, Beta Omicron still managed to come out above the campus average through the recruitment of an outstanding new member class. The class is diverse in any way you can frame it—where they come from, what they study, their socioeconomic background, their age—but when it comes down to it, the cohesion within their class and with the rest of the chapter is evident. Even though their first semester as members of the chapter got cut short, we are ecstatic to welcome them as brothers, live with them in the Shelter in the coming years, and see what more they contribute to the chapter. DRIVEN TO LEAD AFTER DIVISION CONFERENCE In February, Ben Wootton '22, Bryce Roth '22, Carter Ellison '22, and Logan Vegna '21 attended the annual Eastern Division Conference held by the Arch Chapter in Portland, Maine. Brothers attended seminars covering topics such as brotherhood involvement, finances, and recruitment. They received valuable advice that will help us be a leading fraternity at Cornell. Ben Feldman '22 put together a discussion on the topic sexual assault awareness in April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The Zoom call involved brothers hearing stories from
