3 DTD THE CORDELT A lex Wernberg '96 was attracted to Beta Omicron after learning the chapter was going through a rebuilding process. As a new member, he would have the opportunity to help shape the future of the house. Alex rushed with his best friend, Chris Gorczynski '96 and the two met many current members of the house who would become lifelong friends. Most notably Dan Shur '94, Ki Lee '94, Steve Heinzelman '95, and Ken Innami '95. The challenge of re-establishing Delta Tau Delta at Cornell appealed to Alex and he knew he wanted to play an active role in rebuilding the chapter. "At the time, Delta Tau Delta had a group of around ten guys living off campus," Alex recalls. "With the addition of my pledge class, we doubled the chapter size and moved back into the fraternity house the following year. We continued to grow to roughly forty members." Alex was able to use his financial skills as a Business Economics major in the position of chapter treasurer for two years. During his time as an active member of Beta Omicron, Alex learned how to motivate large groups using interpersonal skills and problem solving. Alex enjoyed hanging out with his brothers in the house and always found an activity or occasion to join in on. "The expedition to chop down the Christmas tree, hosting social events and road trips are some of my favorite memories," Alex said. "We took road trips all along the East Coast from Canada to Key West for spring breaks." These trips strengthened the bonds of brotherhood and built enduring friendships. After graduating from Cornell University, Alex moved to Seattle, Washington where he worked for Bank of America for two years and then joined Union Bank. In 2000, he transferred to Los Angeles, California. "I was excited for the opportunity to join a dynamic group with a focus on the power generation business, a sector that was undergoing deregulation and starting the transition to going 'Green' at that time. In 2008, MUFG acquired Union Bank. Today Alex is Managing Director of Power Project Finance at MUFG Union Bank, leading a team dedicated to financing power projects in North America. Alex and his team facilitate funding for power generating projects including natural gas, wind and solar farms, power plants and related infrastructure. As an alumnus brother, Alex served as treasurer for the House Corporation for several years in an effort to give back to the brotherhood. Lately he has been busy with his two sets of twins, (yes, you read that correctly) girls age 14 and boys age 11. Even with endless demands on his time, Alex would visit his brothers in the pre-COVID19 world and now regularly joins Zoom happy hours with his brothers. "It's amazing. A Zoom meeting can be your first time seeing someone in five years and you pick up right where you left off with them," Alex observes. Alex continues to support the House Corporation's efforts to modernize the Shelter through significant improvements by way of the capital campaign. "My time with Delt was something that greatly impacted me and dramatically improved my college experience," Alex said. "I am grateful for the opportunity to give back so future generations of brothers can enjoy these same great experiences." Alex lives with his fiancée, four children and two dogs in Pasadena, California and can be reached at alexcw96@yahoo.com.
