Shelter, Construction, and Recruitment Progress F ortunately, it sounds more and more like OSU will be holding classes on campus this fall so we are moving forward with that in mind. We're also happy to report demolition began on May 18! We have a signed contract for the undergraduates to live in the old Pike house this coming academic year. Additionally, we have the initial percentage of educational space there is in the new Shelter and it's a very favorable number. This is important in that it determines the amount of funding we receive from the Delt Foundation for construction/educa- tional costs and reduces the commercial loan that completes the build. That commercial loan is coming along nicely, thanks in large part to Bill Peacher '69. We received a favorable subcon- tractor bid price of $6.7 million which the House Corporation accepted. Joe Millar '68 worked hard to prepare the Shelter for demolition, including arranging for storage of composites, trophies, and other items that need a safe place for the next 16 months. He also has met with the Stillwater Habitat for Humanity folks to see if they can use parts of the old Shelter for their purposes. Chapter Advisor Rick Morris '70 is working with the recruitment team as they navigate the curtailed rush this summer. Rick also continues to build a Volunteer Advisory Team that, thus far, includes Mason Strom '16, Duane Cornforth '92, and Matthew Grammer '16. Contact Rick if you are interested in working with that team and supporting the actives with your time and talent. David L. Anderson '91 COMMITTED TO HIS COMMUNITY Why Joe Ray '82 Supports the Future of âTâ at OSU H elping others has always been a driving force for Joe Ray '82 in his everyday life. That drive goes back to losing his parents at a young age and other people helping him out in a time that he needed it most. Thanks to his aunt and uncle who raised him, and his cousin who played football at OSU, Joe found his way to OSU and to Delta Tau Delta. Now, he wants to make sure that brothers after him can enjoy the same life-changing experiences he received at Delta Chi Chapter. "We're supposed to give lifelong allegiance, service, loyalty, and love to the fraternity, and I think that includes financial obligations," he said. Through his financial support of the Pledge Delt Again campaign, Joe is a pillar in the foundation and advocate for the future of Delta Chi Chapter during these uncertain times. "I think we all can give at different levels; it's important that everybody give because it truly is an arms race up there right now. I'm concerned some groups are not going to make it through this; they're not going to have the capital to compete with the other fraternities," he stated. "I hate to put it at this level, but that's where we're at and that's the reality. If we want our fraternity remain a leader in the fraternity world, I think everybody needs to consider giving." Delta Chi undoubtedly set him up for success after college and further instilled in him the desire to give back. After graduation, he spent two years as a chapter consultant for Delta Tau Delta, which allowed him to expand on his leadership skills. "That gave me opportunities on a bigger stage. Everything in the fraternity is about the greater good, serving others, and working together," he explained. "I learned in the fraternity that people tend to support what they help create."
