3 THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON Undergraduates and alumni alike have been using video services to stay in contact. Here is a group of alumni sharing in the bond 35 years after graduation! B rothers, we hope you are staying safe and healthy during these challenging times. With schools and businesses shuttered due to the coronavirus outbreak, the 2019-20 academic year is ending on an unexpected note for the actives of Theta Delta. All classes have gone virtual and most students have returned home to quarantine with families. Campus events – including 2020 Commencement – have been canceled or moved online to follow social distancing measures. The Building Corporation and Alumni Advisory Boards have been working with the undergraduates to safely navigate the situation and we commend their response in the face of this crisis. Extra sanitation and social distancing measures have been adopted to ensure the safety of our undergraduates. Moving forward, the actives are preparing for life to return to normal by filling out the Lodge again for summer live-in, paying close attention to guidance from public health authorities. We are also working together to reschedule alumni engagement events in the fall. Look out for more information via email, particularly regarding the Founders Day Golf Tournament. Though life for Theta Delta and our entire community has changed dramatically in recent times, we will all emerge stronger on the other side of this crisis. YITB, Trevor C. Renken '17 CHI PSI RESPONDS TO COVID-19 W ith so many uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, we've all dealt with new challenges that have forced us to think outside the box. Our undergraduate brothers have an extremely difficult task at hand to ensure that chapter operations can run as smoothly as possible, and it's because of leaders like Recruitment Chairman Trevor Garrood '22 that Theta Delta is still on the right track. Trevor previously served as Theta Delta's historian. He expects all the photos he took at chapter events to come in handy, especially if potential new members will have to go through some or all of the recruitment process virtually. "I'm enabling our recruitment process to take place online, if need be, through a virtual tour and other virtual documents," Trevor said. "I'm making sure we are well prepared to tackle our main goal of filling our fall new member class before September. I'm also working to create more online resources for future Theta Delta recruitment chairmen to help streamline the process and make sure we are a step ahead if a situation like this occurs again." Trevor has kept in mind what lured him to join Chi Psi when he went through recruitment. Chi Psi's strong emphasis on development in intellectual, moral, and social life lined up really well with his personal beliefs on what he wanted to get out of his college experience. "When I joined Chi Psi, I quickly saw how being in the fraternity not only helped brothers achieve their goals, but also allowed them to develop lifelong friendships along the way," Trevor said. Along with being actively involved with Theta Delta, Trevor is the vice president of external relations for the UW men's club ice hockey team and a student researcher for UW's Society for Advanced Rocket Propulsion. Trevor has thrived in both organizations and greatly appreciated the support he's received from his brothers. "Chi Psi encourages being involved not only at the Lodge but on campus and in the community The Right Man as Theta Delta's Recruitment Chairman Trevor Garrood '22 Gears Up for Unique Recruitment "When I joined Chi Psi, I quickly saw how being in the fraternity not only helped brothers achieve their goals, but also allowed them to develop lifelong friendships along the way."
