GAMMA PHI BETA 3 M y time as president has been far from anything I expected, and despite the circumstances that have overcome our reality, I couldn't be more grateful to stand by my sisters in spirit and support them through these trying times. Before the onset of this pandemic, our collegians experienced a busy semester with many exciting events and opportunities to connect with each other and the Greek community. We co-hosted our very first Pancake Man philanthropy event with Alpha Tau Omega on February 28 and raised $4,905 for Girls on the Run. Our women remain unhindered in their pursuit for excellence and earned themselves a chapter GPA of 3.607, with 51 women earning a 4.0 in fall 2019. We applaud our sisters who sought to continue their academic journeys through higher education, and congratulate them for their acceptance into their graduate degree programs: • Brenna Schulte '16, Speech Language Pathology • Ana Moser '16, Medical School • Brenna Micek '17, Law School • Elizabeth Hayes '16, Occupational Therapy • Jayden Garrett '16, Physical Therapy • Rose Wehrman '16, Law School • Madi Hagge '18, Nursing School • Meredith Batten '17, Veterinary School To remain connected through this unprecedented time, our members have been looking at innovative ways to keep our sisterhood intact despite our distance from the university. Every week, our members can choose to participate in randomized Facetime dates where they are paired with another sister and asked to connect through video chat that week. We also pay homage to our sisters of pledge class '53 at Iowa State University for the inspiration of letter passing. At the beginning of this pandemic, our executive council wrote heartfelt letters to several members of the chapter and asked them to continue this trend by writing to other sisters and include the same message. In a world where our technology empowers us to "move forward," the opportunity to remain present is too often ignored. The desire for raw connection can still be embraced, despite the distance between us. In honor of this trend, we hope our alumna members may take the time to pursue thoughtful connections and write to their loved ones as well. We appreciate the love and guidance our active, alumnae, and family members have shown us these past several weeks. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, my sisters. Stay safe and stay connected.
