A SLICE OF PI 2 K ara Brostrom '09 was immediately drawn to Gamma Phi Beta during recruitment because of the young independent women who represented Pi Chapter. Kara looked up to them and wanted to emulate their balance of excellence in academics and involvement on campus, in religious organizations, and in the Lincoln community. Through Pi Chapter, she has made meaningful connections. "I wanted to be part of something bigger than myself and surround myself with great role models," Kara said. "It's been so meaningful making connections during my time in Pi Chapter, and now in the community and through my profession with Gamma Phi Beta sisters who were a part of the house both during my time and before or after." As an active member of Pi Chapter, Kara also cheered on the Husker Cheerleading Squad all four years of her collegiate career. "I remember sisters would come down to the fence on game days to say hi," Kara said. "It was so special having their support and knowing they were there to cheer me on!" While cheerleading was a huge time commitment, Kara still served the sisterhood through assisting with recruitment and being elected Membership Vice President and serving on the Executive Committee. Kara graduated with highest distinction from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology when she decided to follow in her father's footsteps and pursued law school. After graduating from the Nebraska College of Law with high distinction, she went on to practice law in Lincoln. Today she is a partner at a boutique law firm, Ball, Loudon, Ebert, &Brostrom, LLC. Kara specializes in estate planning, estate administration, and business succession planning. "I enjoy providing a helping hand and assisting families as they navigate the legal system after losing a loved one," Kara said, "and couples or individuals planning for their future. Each client brings their own specific issues to work through." She loves the balance between desk work, client interaction, and staying involved in the community. At the end of the day, Kara's goal is to serve her clients as best as she can. Looking back on her time with Pi Chapter, Kara believes the sisterhood is one of the reasons she has found success throughout her career. "While I was in the house, I felt the support to push myself and be successful in academics," Kara said. "As an adult, my experience in Gamma Phi Beta has served me well as it taught me how to achieve balance in everything you do. My sisters prepared me for my future and balancing a career." Because of her positive experience in Gamma Phi Beta, Kara has decided to give back to the sisterhood by volunteering her time. On April 5, 2020, Kara was elected as the Affiliated House Corporation Board President. "I am so happy to reconnect with Pi Chapter now that I'm settled in the Lincoln community," Kara said. "It's been great so far and I'm thankful for the mentorship that Tracy Edgerton '88 has provided me." Kara was married last fall and felt blessed to have some of her Gamma Phi Beta sisters in attendance. "It's so special to have my s isters with me for life's biggest events," Kara said. She always loves checking in with sisters, even if it's just over social media or text. You can reach Kara via email at kbrostrom@bllawgroup.com. GO GAMMA PHI BETA!
