My question to you is: Are there plastic surgeons out there who would help my son by removing this birthmark at a very low cost? He has no income, and we are not in a position right now to help him financially. — Grateful Mom Dear Grateful: Your son may qualify for Medicaid, in which case a plastic surgeon may be able to remove the skin growth at no cost if it is potentially malignant. Check at medicaid.gov to see whether your son is covered in his state. He also should check his local hospitals and medical schools. Some surgeons and hospitals have been known to generously donate their skills and facilities for low-income patients. In the meantime, we suggest he visit his local pharmacy or department store and ask about cosmetics that will cover the birthmark. Or he could try two products we have recommended in the past: Dermablend (dermablend.com) and Covermark (covermark.com). Looks like I finally got another fight I've been putting my hat in the ring trying like crazy to get another fight. My husband's been looking, my coaches are looking. I haven't fought since last fall, and felt like I'd never get back in the ring. I hate dry spells. About a month ago, I heard from a friend of mine in Colorado, Steve Mestas. He cornered me in a fight I had in Colorado and was just a ton of help that night. He coaches several fighters and has been trying to get me on a card in Colorado again. We was finally able to get a promoter to take a be interested in getting chance on me. She Vilche even set up a place for us to train, Stand Alone MMA in Chico (thank you, Stand Alone MMA). Talk about nervous. I got there, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I just knew I was dealing with the world champ. And I knew by her videos, she was no joke. We got in the ring together and threw leather for 4 rounds. I was dead tired after the first round. She could have gone lots more (she's used to those 10 round fights!) She gave me some advice on what I could work on and a few lumps on my head. That's how I learn best, anyhow. She's got another title fight coming up in Mexico soon, and I'm sure she will whoop some butt. Thank you so much, Ava! If all this wasn't good enough, my old trainer, Rocky Golden, came back around to get some more consistent sparring in with me. He's got the longest reach on anyone I know, and getting in on him is near impossible. If figure, if I can get past his reach, everyone else will be a breeze. He's giving me some good tips (and lumps on the head) too. Thank you, Rocky! Of course, I can't pass up my coach, Dan Verdugo. He meets me at the gym on my lunch hour, after classes at night, on the weekends... Always quick to hold the focus pads for me, give me some good instruction, even do some sparring. Always there for me, even if only to let me vent. I feel like I have grown leaps and bounds under his tutelage. Thank you, Dan! So, you can see I'm getting pretty excited about this fight. As for sponsors, I want to thank Don Davis of Novus Investments for his generous donation. And I want to thank a good friend of mine who wishes to remain anonymous- so thank you, my angel. We'll probably have a car wash to cover the rest of the expenses, so make sure you bring your cars by for a good scrubbin'. On the self defense front, things are going great. I taught some classes at Red Bluff High School. I taught the self defense techniques at around 6 P.E. classes for mostly girls that day, along with some of my great volunteers. It gave me a new appreciation for teachers. My voice was hoarse, my body was sore, I had a headache. I don't know how you all do it! All kidding aside, the students were great. I just pray they are all thinking about how to avoid dangerous situations more now and how to fight tooth and nail if they need to. I'm doing a training for a Girl Scout Troop this week. I'm a little scared, but I think I'll be all right. What could be scarier than a room full of girls? Then I may be working with the Widow's Club, and who knows? I'm open to helping anyone fell safer. One person who is as committed to all this as I am is Angilee Garcia-Marshall. She owns Heart Strings & Love Knots Boutique. She pays me to offer a training at her store once a month which is open to the public. We've done 2 so far. She gave away these great whistles at the last one. I can't wait for the next one. They are held at her store in Frontier Village on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 1 p.m. The next one will be May 12 (before my fight!) Thank you, Angeliee, for your commitment to keeping our kids (and ladies) safe. I hope to see a lot of you there next month. Even if you've been to one already, it helps to have refresher trainings. Olive company takes sustainability to the next level The largest table olive producer in the U.S., BellCarter Foods, continues to focus on sustainability efforts and later this month, Bell-Carter Foods will receive a rebate check from PG&E honoring the company's active dedication to reducing energy consumption at both the Bell-Carter headquarters and production plant. This will be the second year in a row Bell-Carter has been presented with a rebate check. In the past year, the company has made significant progress in reducing its carbon footprint. The company is actively running the following programs to keep consumption levels low: evaporation cooler projects, which will save 50 million gallons of water per year – the equivalent to the water use of more than 800 Americans; waste water brush aerators, which contributes to overall energy savings; dissolved oxygen systems for the production plant's lower ponds, also contributing to overall energy savings; dredge system to remove bio-solids from the plant's ponds; purchased and installed two new sludge storage tanks to work in conjunction with the new dredge system. As a result of these energy-efficient systems, Bell-Carter Foods is estimated to reduce electrical consumption by 347,424 Kilowatt Hours (kWh), which is equivalent to the average annual usage of 63 homes. Additionally, the projects helped reduce the company's carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 100 tons. "From the beginning, Bell-Carter has always made a conscious effort to provide our customers with the highest quality products possible. Our sustainability efforts play a major role in achieving that standard," said Andal Allison, marketing manager for Bell-Carter Foods. "It's important to us to improve the environment and reduce our carbon footprint in the community where we live and work." $ 41,98537 in Discount Coupons were published last week in the DAILY NEWS RED BLUFF TEHAMA COUNTY … And that does not Count all the ads offering percentage discounts, two-for-ones and Free-with-Purchase offers!
