The Duck call Page 2 T here has been a lot of hard work put in by many brothers the past few years to recharter Delta Upsilon at Mizzou, but when it comes down to it, they all had one unified purpose: Building Better Mizzou Men. Jeff Kreutz '99 has been an instrumental leader in that process. Not only was Jeff one of the top donors to the capital campaign, but he has also served as the chairman of the Advisory Board for the past two years. "As hard as the closing was, I've tried to see the bright side of things in that we were given a clean slate to work with and the ability to rebuild with the knowledge and insight of what needed improving. I feel that this new group of brothers is on the right track and positioned for much success in the coming years," Jeff said. "The culture of the chapter changes every year with each new group of incoming members. There is a constant emphasis to try and make sure their values align with the type of fraternity experience we are trying to provide." In Jeff's role as Advisory Board chairman, he supports eight alumni board members who are paired with eight undergraduate executive board members and serves as a liaison between the Advisory Board and Housing Corporation. He has overseen Missouri Chapter's quick rise back to prominence on campus and assures all alumni that they have a lot to be proud regarding the status of the brotherhood. Jeff salutes the brothers who made commitments to the capital campaign and encourages those who haven't fulfilled their original pledges to do so. It's also not too late to join Missouri Chapter's list of loyal donors. Remember, every dollar counts in the mission of Building Better Mizzou Men. Part of Jeff's position as the Advisory Board chairman involves attending DUIF programming events such as Leadership Institute, Regional Leadership Academy, and Building Better Men retreats with Missouri Chapter's undergraduate members. Jeff has worked with brothers from other DU chapters in the Midwest at each of those events, which has given him several ideas to strengthen our brotherhood. He also gained valuable insight from his son's Greek life experience with another fraternity at Mizzou. Whether it be fulfilling your campaign pledge, joining the Advisory Board, or being a guest speaker at a chapter meeting, Jeff asks that brothers jump on board with Building Better Mizzou Men. "Being a DU member was pivotal to my growth as a young adult and gave me an opportunity to not only make a lot of friends, but to also get involved and develop through those experiences," Jeff said. "Twenty-plus years later, I can still easily say that becoming a DU was one of the best things I ever did." You can connect with Jeff at jeffkreutz@yahoo.com. One final appeal is that we are always looking for alumni volunteers to join us on the Advisory Board or to come and speak to the chapter. Contact Jeff if your are interested. Building Better Mizzou Men Jeff Kreutz '99 Calls Upon Brothers to Deliver for Deserving DU Undergraduates "As hard as the closing was, I've tried to see the bright side of things in that we were given a clean slate to work with and the ability to rebuild with the knowledge and insight of what needed improving." A s I reflect upon the past eight months of the growth and success of the chapter, my mind races through the memories that began long before last August. Growing up and hearing the stories of how much DU meant to my dad during his time at Mizzou, I knew this Fraternity was worth the hard work. The opportunity to build our own chapter and create our own memories has truly come to life these past few months. From winning the Greek intramural basketball and volleyball leagues to participating in our first Homecoming in four years, it was a remarkable year full of firsts that led to a brotherhood that not only cares about each other, but also has an impact on the campus and community around it. The greatest strides we made this past year were those when members devoted to a similar purpose and goal. This spring, the chapter participated in MizzouTHON, which is a student-led philanthropy that allows organizations to sponsor pediatric patients who are treated at the MU Women's and Children's Hospital. This year our chapter was fortunate to sponsor 8-year-old Dylan and his family. We surprised him during a Christmas parade with an early present and then "initiated" him in February to further welcome him into our brotherhood. We also had members serve in the community this year: five brothers went on mission trips to Jamaica and served in local organizations like Loaves & Fishes, a local food pantry. Brothers have spent Tuesday afternoons serving the homeless in Columbia, and we are looking forward to the future impact we can have. We were honored to recently receive the 2019-20 Chancellor's Excellence Award for commitment to service. Although our first philanthropy planned for the spring was canceled due to the pandemic, we are hoping to restart the historic DU CampusTowne Races next spring and are extremely excited with the potential that has. Last, this year marked great memories shared with each other. We had a great time participating in a multitude of campus events and hope to build even deeper memories with one another in the fall and beyond.
