Fisher stopped in to visit with students, staff and community members during the week of Round-Up. Fisher and his wife, Janet, who have been married more than 20 years, will start moving in May. They have five children, Zack, 17, Emma, 13, Carson, 9, Jaxson, 5, and Maddox, 4. While relatively new to California, having moved here in 2000 to work at Channel Islands High School in Oxnard, Fisher is no stranger to small towns, having grown up in one. Fisher originally hails from Union, a town of about 1,800, and graduated from Union High School in 1986. He graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelors in Zoology. Fisher chose to go into administration after an encounter with administrator at one of his previous schools. A student had marijuana fall out of his pocket, Fisher walked him to the office and the administrator did nothing about it, Fisher said. "They couldn't have cared less about the teachers and things going on in classes," Fisher said. "There was no discipline and you can't be an effective teacher if there's no one backing you up." Fisher worked as an assistant principal at Camarillo High School and spent a little more than three years as principal at Ace Charter High School, also in Camarillo. As a parent, Fisher liked the great schools and the fact that the gym has "distinguished school" displayed, he said. "That's where everyone should aspire to be — a place where the community is proud of and a place where people drive to see it," Fisher said. Jackson St. The department has been conducting land and water use surveys of Tehama County for three decades. The DWR Land Use Program develops and analyses data on irrigated acreage primarily for purposes of the California Water Plan Update, Bulletin 160 series. The surveys document how water is utilized and show reuse within each valley and basin. Many complex irrigation and wildlife management issues are present within the area. There is little information on how water moves through the complex network of streams, drains, sloughs and how much groundwater is utilized. There is almost no documentation on the ruse of applied water within the valleys and basins. During the growing season, most of the water is used to irrigate crops and to a lesser extent is used on National Wildlife Refuges and State Wildlife Management Areas. The department documents the operations during normal, wet and dry years to form a reasonable basis for making water decisions such as future system improvements and the effects of groundwater pumping. Data derived from land and water use surveys is valuable to local water agencies and counties planning for future water needs. The department's long term goal is to create relationships with local agencies, where there will be a sharing of valuable Land and Water Use information to assist in local water issues. Everyone is welcome to the workshop and to approach staff to inquire about the survey to provide assistance. For more information email Xavier "Tito" Cervantes at cervante@water.ca.gov.
