IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY PAGE 3 Gamma Upsilon Remains Focused on Academic Excellence and Philanthropy Gains Largest New Member Class at Iowa State for Spring 2020 L ast fall, Gamma Upsilon increased its overall chapter GPA by 0.12 points from the previous semester, which helped us achieve the largest all-chapter GPA for semester— our highest yet, with a 3.19. It also ranked us with the ninth highest GPA out of all fraternities on campus. Other noteworthy achievements include initiating more than 26 members from the fall 2019 new member class and executing our first ever ATΩ Harvest, which raised $1,200 for Access Domestic Violence of Iowa. Gamma Upsilon also won the intramural flag football championship last fall with a record of 6-0 throughout the season. Spring 2020 Accomplishments The spring semester started off with Gamma Upsilon winning the intramural hockey tournament and having the largest new member class of any fraternity at Iowa State. In February, our chapter sent 20 members to Minneapolis for the 2020 Emerging Leaders Conference, which teaches members on what to do to stay active within our chapter and how to improve themselves as a person. Assuming things return to normal soon regarding the COVID-19 situation, the new recruitment chairmen look forward to starting fall recruitment this summer. Philanthropic Endeavors, Campus Involvement, and Community Outreach Gamma Upsilon hosted the largest spring philanthropic event in the history of the chapter, Cones and Bones, which raised close to $1,500 for the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Gamma Upsilon also introduced two brand new philanthropic events and became involved with the community service organization, Best Buddies. This organization pairs college students with adults who have developmental disabilities to foster meaningful relationships and friendships. During the last two semesters, our chapter has had three members, Mark Rapp '19, Ben Baca '18, and Caden Flodstrom '18, who have been part of the Ivy College of Business Student Council. This organization is dedicated to making new students feel more comfortable at Iowa State and within the Ivy College of Business community. Fun with Family and Alumni Moms and other family members of active Gamma Upsilon brothers were invited to the chapter midway through the spring semester for a weekend of house tours, dinner, and a live auction. All proceeds benefitted Access. This fall, Gamma Upsilon plans to host a tailgate on Saturday, September 26, that all parents of members and alumni will be welcome to join. It will include house tours, a tailgate before the Texas Tech game, and attending the game with our brothers and family. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to that weekend. We hope to see you there! Fraternally, Maxwell McFadden '18 Chapter President (630) 777-7794 mjm22@iastate.edu Dave Ascensio '20 Elgin, Ill. Dylan Doty '20 Lakeville Minn.
