Published by Beta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Nu at Purdue University Winter 2020 O n October 12, 2019, brothers met for Purdue's Homecoming and the Alumni Association meeting. Below is a review of the Alumni Association meeting and the items discussed. Chuck Ludwig '68 (BZ1066) gave an encouraging leadership talk to the active brothers and new members. COLONY UPDATE/STATUS • Beta Zeta has about 50 members. ey moved into the house in August 2019. • For initiation and the return of Beta Zeta's charter, grades and numbers are critical. • Grades must be at least 3.0 to become a chapter (note: Purdue is now on a 4.0 scale). • For National to approve our charter, we need roughly 70 men. • Succession planning is needed for all offices. • Andy Robison, facility advisor, has done an amazing job helping with colony events. • Overall, everyone is happy and appreciative to be back in the house. In a special ceremony, Brother Jay Ricker '69 (BZ1084) was inducted into the BZ Hall of Honor 2019. To read the full article on Jay, see page 2. OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED: • Upcoming events: • Looking to set up a golf outing in the summer in West Lafayette. • Indy Alumni events. • Communication strategy: • Gain "year/decade captains" to keep alumni up to date on current events. • How alumni can get involved. • Put together local groups for Lafayette, Chicago, and Indianapolis to be points of contact. • Jack Negley '75 (BZ1185) spoke about the Sigma Nu Indy Area Alumni Club and started to gain contact information to invite more brothers to join. • A volunteer opportunity to run a lead session with the colony was recommend by Aaron Hohenbrink '93 (BZ1636). e program takes 2-3 hours, plus a one-hour session for the program, but is a rewarding experience for all parties. Drew encouraged alumni to help with the communication strategy, secession planning of the offices, and movement to help gain more engagement. e meeting was attended by approximately 20 Beta Zetas. Afterward, there was a delicious pig roast sponsored by the Beta Zeta Alumni Association. More brothers stopped by the house to visit and enjoy fellowship and the feast. On another note, Purdue football capped off a beautiful day with a great victory! Shaping the Future of Beta Zeta A Round of Applause to Our New Officers EC Drew Adam '98 (BZ1833) LC Jay Maddox '68 (BZ1065) Treasurer Drew Adam '98 (BZ1833) Chaplain Jack Negley '75 (BZ1185) Sentinel Mike Koszulinski '11(BZ 2182) Alumni and collegians at Homecoming preparing to enjoy the delicious Pig Roast. A s Drew Adam '98 (BZ1833) steps into his new role as PSNAA president, he reflects on what Sigma Nu has given him: brotherhood, leadership, friendship, and community. He knows he is not the only brother thankful for all that Beta Zeta has provided—one of the reasons he accepted this role in the first place. "I think most brothers' experiences are similar but different, and I'm looking forward to listening to how traditions have been passed on from year to year and decade to decade. We have a unique bond with just over 2,000 other people in the world, and I think it is pretty cool that we can have a connection like this that spans generations and Purdue history." As president, Drew plans to reengage alumni and rebuild Beta Zeta. He sees an opportunity to reestablish some traditions that have fallen by the wayside while positioning the alumni association toward the future. Drew will focus on two major points for 2020. 1. Consistency in communication about Sigma Nu and alumni events. 2. Advanced planning for alumni association activities. Drew hopes that consistent communication and planning will increase attendance at events, reengage alumni, and bolster alumni support during the recolonization period. While technically the leading man of the PSNAA, Drew recognizes the support of many other brothers. He thanks Jason Norman '99 (BZ1850) and Jeff Hollings '75 (BZ1178) for prior years of service as EC and LC, and recently elected officers Jay Maddox '68 (BZ1065), Jack Negley '75 (BZ1185), and Mike Kozulinski '11 (BZ2182), who are an instrumental part of the PSNAA.
