Sigma Nu PURDUE P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested PRSRT STD U.S. POSTAGE PAID KPI Beta Zeta Meetups The Beta Zeta Chapter Hall of Honor J ay Ricker '69 (BZ1084) was born in Frankfort, Ind., on June 24, 1950. He attended Purdue University and received his bachelor's degree in industrial management through the Krannert School of Management. He and his wife, Nancy McQuinn, have two children, Quinn and Laine, and five grandchildren. Quinn '97 (BZ1774) joined Beta Zeta in March 1997. Jay served Beta Zeta after graduation as the President of the Purdue Sigma Nu Housing Corporation for 16 years, from 1983 to 1999. As such, he was part of a group of five that led the charge for the new house on Tower Drive. He was involved in the sale of the Littleton property, worked with the architect on the new house design, and was instrumental in that capital campaign and the administration of the financial side of the campaign as well. Jay and Nancy started Ricker Oil in 1979. Nancy ran the office and Jay drove the tank wagon. Over the next nearly 40 years, the company acquired five oil companies and opened 56 Ricker's stores, while Jay made a name for himself as a well-regarded leader in the convenience retail channel. Jay was not looking to sell his chain of convenience stores in Indiana when Giant Eagle Inc. came to him with an offer to buy. It was a look at the future of the c-store industry as a whole that opened his mind to the possibility of selling. On December 4, 2018, Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle, operator of GetGo Café + Market convenience stores, took ownership of the Ricker's chain. ere are currently 200 GetGo locations throughout Indiana, western Pennsylvania, Ohio, northern West Virginia, and Maryland. Jay has dedicated a large portion of his time giving back to Sigma Nu and Purdue. His accomplishments made Jay an easy choice when voted for the Beta Zeta Hall of Honor. Jay reminisced with his Beta Zeta brothers in attendance, talking about the undertaking of the new construction of the house on Tower Drive and how he served on the Housing Corporation for 16 years. Jay was also quick to point out it was one more year than Chuck Ludwig '68 (BZ1066) was academic advisor around the same period in the 1980s and '90s. Al Wurster '82 (BZ1334) added a few remarks with quotes from brothers who know Jay well, speaking highly of his business presence, honor, and loyalty to Sigma Nu. Jay proved his willingness to drive past many obstacles in helping shape the Beta Zeta Chapter. Next time you see Jay, please congratulate him on this prestigious honor and the next time you are at the house on Tower Drive, take a look at the plaque on the first floor in Jay's honor.
