and features brick salvaged from the
U.S. Arsenal. Pastor James Randall
said the church bell used to be rung to
announce school in a smaller adjacent
building. ese days, children in the
congregation have the chance to ring
the bell by hand aer Sunday worship.
"We let them ring it until they get
tired," Randall said.

e bell tower at First Baptist
Church on Anderson Street is a brick
structure with stained glass windows.
At the top, arched, open-air windows
surround the 2,500-pound bell.
Allene Horne, the church's pastoral
assistant, said the bell traditionally is
rung by hand on Sundays, as well as at
funerals and weddings.
ese days, she said, she and Pastor
Rob James ring the bell more oen.
"We've been ringing it every day, just to
let people know the church is here," she
said. "And that there is hope."
