Lincoln: Arkansas' apple orchard rich in history Lincoln: outdoor adventures and outstanding schools By Randy Rice e history of Lincoln dates all the way back to the 1800s and has undergone several name changes throughout its lifespan, including Starr Hill, Blackjack and Georgetown, before finally settling on Lincoln in 1885. But one thing has remained constant through all the name changes and remains true today: Lincoln is all about apples! Its reputation for apple production has earned it the moniker of Apple Capitol of Arkansas. e Arkansas Black Apple and the Collins Red Apple were both developed in the verdant apple orchards of Lincoln. e popular Apple Festival, which debuted in 1975, is still a huge draw today for people in the area and surrounding states. Beyond the apple trees Lincoln offers a wide variety of outdoor adventure for residents and visitors alike. e city's beautiful parks and hiking trails are just the beginning for those looking to enjoy the natural offerings of the area. ere are numerous opportunities for rock climbing, biking, kayaking and canoeing. ere is even a breathtaking overlook known for its frequent sightings of bald eagles. 18 – 2020 West Washington County Directory
