Enterprise-Leader/LYNN KUTTER Braiden Barclay, a first grader at Lincoln Elementary, takes a break to read during Read Across America, a week to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss. e Town Garden and Park was designed to be a community garden for the city. e idea behind the garden was to give residents the chance to support the local charities by growing fresh produce for their distribution. e innovative project also gives local residents a hands-on opportunity to be involved and experience the joys of gardening for a good cause. e schools are a major source of pride for the city. Lincoln schools are exceeding at every level and are responsible for several innovative initiatives. e Teacher and Student Achievement Program (TAP) provides teacher evaluation, focused professional development, multiple career paths, and performance-based compensation. TAP is implemented at all grade levels in all schools. Lincoln received the TAP Award of Distinction in 2012. e Leader In Me program provides students with opportunities to grow as leaders and become successful members of society. e Leader in Me is implemented in Lincoln Elementary School and Lincoln Middle School for students in Kindergarten through seventh grade. e school district's New Tech Initiative provides engaging learning experiences for students including project-based learning and combined-curriculum courses. Additionally, Lincoln is fortunate to have a tremendous amount of technological devices for students and staff. Students in grades three through twelve use MacBook Airs and younger students use iPod Touch and iPad. ey have one of the most robust school networks in the State of Arkansas. Finally, the Lincoln School District believes in the Whole Child Initiative. ey strive to understand and support their children and help them with whatever needs they have to ensure their success.
