Local High and Middle School Students Take Honors in Envriothon Competition

Thirteen teams from Cape Fear High School, Gray's Creek High
School and Homes Offering Meaningful Education (H.O.M.E.) high
school and middle school competed in the Envirothon, sponsored by the
&XPEHUODQG &RXQW\ 6RLO :DWHU &RQVHUYDWLRQ 'LVWULFW
Envirothon is a natural resources competition for middle and high
school students. Students are tested in aquatics, soils, forestry, wildlife
and current environmental issues.
The winning teams will travel to Cedarock State Park in Burlington for
the state Envirothon competition on April 19-20. The winners listed by
category are:
High Schools
1st Place – "The Five Muskrateers" of Homes Offering Meaningful
Education (H.O.M.E.).
2nd Place – The "FFA Hellbenders" of Gray's Creek High School.
Middle Schools
1st Place – The "XJam Square" team of H.O.M.E.
Fair Housing Workshop April 30 At DSS
Cumberland County Community Development and other
partners will host a free workshop on fair housing rights for
people with disabilities on April 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the
Department of Social Services, 1225 Ramsey St. The workshop
will cover topics including basic fair housing protections, reasonable
DFFRPPRGDWLRQ UHDVRQDEOH PRGLÀFDWLRQ DQG LVVXHV DVVRFLDWHG ZLWK
access and design.
Organizers invite members of the public; disability rights
advocates; providers of housing and related services for people with
disabilities; residential property managers and owners or developers;
and anyone who cares about equal access to decent, affordable
housing.
