After graduation he spent two years of active duty as a young officer and returned to UF to earn a master's degree and doctorate in education. He was a professor and science department chairman at St. Petersburg Junior College for 28 years before retiring in 1987. He continued his service in the Army Reserves and retired in 1981 as colonel. Marvin received a law degree from Stetson University in 1979 and practiced law from 1987 to 1994. A love of traveling took him to all seven continents. Marvin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bette Ra Perry Ivey, his two children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Roy Wegener '75 entered Chapter Eternal on March 30, 2019, in Jacksonville, Fla. He had wonderful friends from Theta Chi. He enjoyed a surprise 40th birthday party with several of these men and their families. He took baseball trips regularly including a final trip to Chicago with his best friends Mike Cullum '74 and Greg Parker '75. Roy was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease at the age of 45. He was determined to live actively for as long as possible. He continued to play games and sports with his three sons, and lived a great life for another 20 years after his diagnosis. Roy would no doubt tell you that his greatest joy was watching his sons grow into fine young men. ALUMNI NEWS John Renninger '52 lives in a retirement community in Fredericksburg, Va. His wife passed away last October. His son (a Theta Chi) and daughter are both graduates of VA Tech. They lives about 50 miles away and visit frequently. Charles lives in a nursing home in Buffalo, N.Y., near his daughter. He's still a huge Gator fan and watches them whenever he can. Ronald Shamlaty '65 formed his own company, R&B Business Services, after retiring. He and his business partner are logistics instructors for the University of North Florida's Continuing Education Department. He joined Joe Still '67, Roddy Grimes '68, Jim Wilkerson '68, Bruce Hoffman '68, and Tom Richardson '68 to watch the Gators' 2019 debut. Jim lives in Melbourne, Fla. He is currently training to qualify for the April 2021 race. "Running keeps me sane, grounded, and in shape. I still think I'm a young man even though age is catching up to my body, but that's not going to stop me from trying!" Boris lives in Suwanee, Ga. Scott ran the research of a new drug candidate that treats Parkinson's disease. Their results were published at Neuroscience 2018, the annual convention for the global Society for Neuroscience (SfN). Scott lives in Winter Haven, Fla. Email: scott@truesdell.com James J. Thorpe Jr. '98 joined non-profit Hearing the Call on a humanitarian trip to Jordan. The team of volunteer audiologists treated hundreds of grateful patients and brought the gift of hearing to many. Eventually, James transitioned from his law practice to working for Hearing the Call. He writes, "The whole experience is life-changing, both for the patients we help serve and for the volunteers serving (including me). To love your job is to never work a day in your life. They moved to Sonoma, Calif., in 2016, where they built wineries and Lindsay managed luxury events. In November 2017, they welcomed their daughter, Georgia, and in July 2018 they moved back to Tampa, Fla. Brian returned to work at The Beck Group as a development manager. He represents the University of Florida and Shands on the development of their new on-campus hotel. He also operates a boutique wine marketing company, Vineration. As a bonus, he met and befriended another alumnus, Joe Calabrese '05.
