W ith the start of the new decade, there is no better time to reflect upon the past while also looking to the future. In the fall 2019 semester, we shined academically, increased our involvement on campus, and successfully courted Alpha Omicron Pi for Homecoming. In the coming months, we plan to set the bar for fraternal excellence to bring Tau Chapter another Alter Award. CREATIVE PHILANTHROPY Our new philanthropy event, Theta Chi Sandbox, a sand volleyball tournament benefitting the USO, was a great success. The goal in switching to sand volleyball from the traditional event is to increase sorority and other non-brother participation to in turn increase sales and advertising opportunities. I feel confident that our new philanthropy chairman, Jared Weingard '19, and Administrative Vice President Max Pachter '17 can grow this promising event. ACADEMICS We maintained our standing as one of the top fraternities on campus in overall GPA, but there is always room for improvement. Our new scholarship chairman, Charles C. Curtis III '17, has set a Chapter goal to increase our campus rank by one spot per semester. Academics continue to be the No. 1 priority of the Chapter as our brothers are enrolled in some of the hardest classes UF has to offer. The completion of the new 20-person study room upstairs is just one part of our effort toward improvement. PROMISING NEW MEMBERS For spring 2020, over 25 men have accepted bids. Our fall 2019 members have begun to make their presence felt on campus by participating in various philanthropy events while achieving individual honors. Jason Liu '19 was honored with the Emerging Scholars Research award and works as an intern in the neuromedicine interdisciplinary clinical and academic program with his member class brother, Jake Siegel '19, who is assistant comptroller for Student Government Productions. We believe upon initiation, the spring 2020 new members will have the same positive impact on the brotherhood. TAU MEN ACCOMPLISHMENTS • Sean Lanoue '16 and Jimmy Wheeler '16 were tapped into Florida Blue Key Leadership Honorary. • Isaac Hetzroni '16, with the help of Gabe Peña '17, won the Gainesville Startup of the Year award, the Upward Grant, and the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards regional competition for Isaac's company Imprint Genius. • Ryan Eaton '17 brought Autism Speaks University to campus to help raise money to research, advocate, and support for those suffering from autism spectrum disorder. • Robert Schulte '17 and I are chairman and chief of staff for Gator Innovators, a club that is helps student startups and entrepreneurs. THANK YOU We are very appreciative of our alumni; we wouldn't be where we are today without all the hard work put in by those before us. We will follow the example you set and set the example for others in the coming semester, and we are confident Tau Chapter will continue to prosper.
