THE FLATIRON She hopes Colorado Alpha alumni will find time to connect with today's active Chapter. "When you make the time (it can even mean an hour a month) to give back to your SigEp community at Colorado Alpha, it makes a huge difference. I want to encourage alumni to step into the picture, participate in activities, donate to their fundraisers, make a call, drop off some food or treats during finals ... whatever you can do financially or with your time is so appreciated." Amy is confident Colorado Alpha is headed in the right direction. Changing the mentality of fraternity life is beyond difficult, but SigEp and Colorado Alpha are at the forefront. Pushback after becoming one of the first substance-free houses in Boulder was expected, but Amy and the AVC feel confident in the leadership at the house and the young men who want to make a difference. In her free time, Amy flips houses in Denver, writes for her blog (www.coffetalkmom.com), hikes, attends church, and spends time with family and friends. Her favorite weekend involves a trip to Boulder watching the Buffs win! She can be reached at amydrach@gmail.com. Amy Drach Brings New Perspective (Continued from page 1) 2020 ExEmplary SErvicE award rEcipiEnt: charlES StEgman '81 T he Exemplary Service Award recognizes devoted and productive service at the Chapter, district, regional, and/or national level for a minimum of 20 years. Recipients will have made significant and lasting impact for the betterment of the Fraternity. Both SigEp and non-SigEp volunteers are eligible for this award. However, current members of the Order of the Golden Heart are not eligible for this award. The SigEp National Board of Directors (NBD) created the award to show undergraduate brothers and alumni/volunteers at Carlson Leadership Academy a picture of longtime SigEp volunteerism standing before them, and the NBD wants them to walk away understanding that volunteering for SigEp, not just being a SigEp, is vital and life-changing. Chuck is currently: • VP of Finance for the California Alpha (UC Berkeley) AVC • Secretary of the California Theta (Sacramento State) Alumni Advisory Council • Acting undergraduate VP of Finance for California Alpha and California Theta Chapters • Carlson Leadership Academy Faculty for undergraduate VPs of Finance • Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation Board of Governors • Former member of a working group and the principal author of a white-paper for the SigEp NBD on AVCs on avoiding embezzlement and statutory compliance (tax filings and the like) Chuck graduated from CU in 1981 and became a SigEp regional director (serving Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana) and then went on Headquarters staff as expansion director, where he facilitated more than a dozen new SigEp chapters. He continued his SigEp involvement as a volunteer after leaving SigEp Headquarters staff in 1983. That included: • Mentor for multiple VPs of Finance (California Alpha and California Theta) • Presenter for the District 25 Retreat for Alumni and Volunteers • Secretary for the California Alpha SigEp AVC, Inc. • Financial Auditor for California Alpha • President, Treasurer, and Secretary California Xi (San Francisco State) AVC • Chapter Counselor for California Xi • President and Secretary of California Pi (Stanford) AVC • Carlson Leadership Academy Faculty for undergraduate VPs of Recruitment • Recruitment Clinic Faculty for multiple Northern California Chapters M ark your calendars for the Colorado Alpha Reunion on September 11-12, 2020.
