Always True to the Wine and Blue 60 Years of Mississippi Beta Tradition A s we approach Pi Beta Phi's 60th anniversary at Ole Miss, we reflect on the rich traditions that make Mississippi Beta the chapter it is today. Nearly 60 years ago, Pi Beta Phi initiated the first young women into the charter class of our Mississippi Beta Chapter. These women left their legacy, and now our chapter has initiated more than 2,600 women into our sisterhood. Our sisters have continually made their mark on campus and in our communities. Mississippi Beta has been home to homecoming queens, community leaders, successful business women, educators, national officers for Pi Beta Phi Fraternity Headquarters and so much more. Our undergraduates and alumnae are building friends and leaders for life. Our chapter house at 642 Rebel Drive is clearly the focus of undergraduate life for Mississippi Beta. Since walking through the door on Bid Day, it has been a home away from home for hundreds of young women. This is the house where we gained confidence, built lifelong friendships, supported one another, found a community and continued to grow into the women we are today. However, if we wish for Pi Phi to continue its strong presence on the Ole Miss campus, we must ensure that we are providing a facility that is competitive on campus and moves the chapter forward — not leaving it behind. Now is the time to secure our future. "When I went through recruitment in the '60s, I kept an open mind (even though my mother was a Chi Omega), but I did not join a sorority initially. Then I was invited to Pi Phi's colonization events and later joined as a sophomore. I absolutely loved my Greek experience as a founding member of Mississippi Beta!" – Peggy McClure Lyons '62 "If I would have received another sorority bid on Bid Day, I would not have accepted. I wanted Pi Phi so badly! I would go back and do it all again if I could. I made the best lifelong friends during my time in the chapter." – Tate Russell '99 "Pi Beta Phi is like having a second family. My Mississippi Beta sisters have been there during some of the most wonderful times and challenging times these past 34 years. They are truly a blessing to me!" – Suzanne Skipton Shelton '87 The facade of our beloved "ski lodge" from 1962-2008.
