The MS Beta Post PAGE 2 to the last night, I confessed to her that I would be heartbroken if she didn't choose Pi Phi." Carrie is glad Julie decided to join as it brings another level of commonality to their relationship. For Julie, having a sister in the sorority means the world to her. "I could ask her any question and later in life our bond has been a favorite part of our sisterhood." Their bond flows over into the business world as well. After losing their father to environmental cancer in 2012, they have made it their mission to help others affected by environmental illness. Both sisters are managing directors with Beautycounter. Beautycounter's mission is to provide safer beauty products for everyone. "We love sharing our passion about the need for safer personal care products since major legislation in the industry hasn't occurred since the 1930s," Carrie said. They agree one of the best parts of their job is reconnecting with so many Mississippi Betas! Carrie and Julie both remain heavily involved with Pi Phi. Julie shares that immediately after college, they started attending alumnae events in Dallas. "We have both been advisors at the SMU chapter and have met so many of our mutual friends through the Pi Phi network here in Dallas," Julie said. Carrie has served for many years with the Dallas Alumnae Club, the Advisory Committee at SMU and even a short stint as a regional officer with Pi Beta Phi. "I took some time off to raise my babies but look forward to getting involved again." Both sisters recall treasured memories from their undergraduate years. Carrie remembers an ice storm that knocked out the power all over town. "We hunkered down in front of the fire in the basement, played cards and had the best time." Julie loved to host her family and friends during football season to show off the southern hospitality and the Grove. Carrie and Julie live in Dallas and remain very close. "Our children go to the same school and are good friends. I cannot imagine life without her," Julie said. Carrie added, "Our sibling relationship isn't without our normal ups and downs. I hope and pray that our children are able to have a similar relationship." Carrie can be reached at carriewsmith@ yahoo.com and Julie can be reached at julie.eisenberg@yahoo.com. The video for this round highlighted Pi Phi's national philanthropy and our local reading initiatives and philanthropy events from the past year. During sisterhood round, we continued the tradition of showing the women invited back what a traditional Pi Beta Phi Cookie Shine looks like. Vice President of Fraternity Development Lily Bruce '17 explained the history surrounding this unique event. The video for this round focused on our theme, "What is Pi Beta Phi." This video is on our chapter's YouTube and we encourage our alumnae to watch. For preference round, we hosted the traditional flower ceremony that highlights our organization's values. We also had several members stand up and share their memories that related to each value. Our preference choir sang with an accompanying keyboard and it was angelic. On Bid Day, we welcomed 133 New Members from all over the country and one from Australia. We spent the day getting to know our New Members and enjoying our sisterhood.
