Published by Beta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Nu at Purdue University Fall 2019 A n active alumni base is what separates the good or bad chapters from the great ones. Luckily, our alumni have stepped up to lead Beta Zeta through recolonization. Many of you might be wondering who is currently responsible for leading Beta Zeta. e answer is really three groups—all of which play a critical role in the future of Beta Zeta Chapter. ese groups are: the Purdue Sigma Nu Alumni Association (PSNAA), the House Corporation, and the Alumni Advisory Board (AAB). Each group has a clear role, a leader, and several other Beta Zeta alumni involved or soon to be involved. ese three groups work closely together as we build a colony that's stronger than ever. The PSNAA Responsible for the alumni and is led by Worthy Commander Drew Adam '98 (BZ1833), who was elected into the position at our Homecoming meeting in October. In this issue we have profiled previous Worthy Commander Jason Norman '99 (BZ1850). We thank Jason for his service. We'll have more information on Drew, as well as updates from our Homecoming meeting in a winter edition of e Serpent. Duties: • Alumni communication (e.g., e Serpent and our website). • Alumni events (e.g., Homecoming or anniversary celebrations, fundraising, etc.). The House Corporation Responsible for the physical house and is led by President Pat Hatfield '78 (BZ1231). Duties: • Manages all aspects of this asset (e.g., repairs, renovations, insurance, cash flow). • Ensures there is a tenant occupying the house so that it can remain financially viable. The AAB Responsible for advising, guiding, and mentoring the collegians and is led by Chairman Jeff Hollings '75 (BZ1178). Duties: • Enables alumni to have a greater presence with the collegians. • Appoints alumni responsible for specific aspects of the collegiate chapter (e.g., financial advisor, social/risk advisor, etc.). • Spearheads the recolonization effort. e effort put forth by alumni has been vital to our success in growing the Beta Zeta colony. With this in mind, our increased alumni relations program is designed to help our members stay in touch and cultivate awareness and involvement in Beta Zeta. Twice a year we will mail a newsletter focused on communication with alumni, similar to the past e-newsletters but with an enhanced, new look. In addition to the newsletter, we will send a biographical update requesting alumni to verify the contact information we have on file. Many of you have already received this mailing and we encourage you to return it to us as soon as you can. ese biographical updates play a vital role in maintaining our records and enhance our ability to facilitate meaningful relationships within our alumni community. ey also allow us to collect information for the alumni news section of the newsletter. By bolstering our programming, we hope to strengthen the fraternal bond that ties us all together. Our alumni have already taken the colony far and we encourage brothers to get involved where they believe they can make a difference. With a strong alumni base, Beta Zeta will once again reach its highest potential. Fraternally, Jeff Hollings '75 (BZ1178) Chairman, Alumni Advisory Board For Alumni, By Alumni Building a Future for Our Colony Together Collegians and alumni at the "Welcome Back to The House" cookout the alumni hosted on August 16.
