W ith the holiday season quickly approaching, the Alpha Lambda Chapter has been in a giving mood to close out the 2019 fall term. Between hosting Watermelon Bash October 16-18 and Lambda Chi Alpha's Day of Giving on December 3, we have been focused on putting the needs of others before our own. Watermelon Bash raised $10,000 for our partner, Community Outreach Inc., in Corvallis. Activities from the bash included a canned food sculpture contest, dodgeball tournament, watermelon decoration contest, pizza night, three-on-three basketball tournament, and the Miss/Mr. Watermelon Bash Pageant in LaSells Stewart Center. Participating Greek chapters elected representatives to answer trivia questions and perform in a talent show and in-between acts. Alpha Lambda brothers performed music to help highlight the special event. Additionally, Alpha Lambda seeks to donate 200,000 to 300,000 meals to Community Outreach Inc. Countless hours and planning have gone into these events, but they wouldn't be possible without the hard work of our brotherhood and the philanthropic successes we've had historically. Last spring term, Alpha Lambda successfully finished in first or second in every sorority and fraternity philanthropy event we participated in. For Kappa Delta's Mock Rock and Kappa Alpha Theta's Iron Brawl, we had second-place finishes with more than $4,000 donated to each sorority's respective philanthropy. We earned an impressive first-place total for Alpha Gamma Delta's Mr. Ace, as we finished $3,000 ahead of the next highest fundraiser. Michael Hammond '17-1922 competed in the talent show portion of Mr. Ace and placed second! We have enjoyed carrying on Alpha Lambda's tradition of campus involvement and personal philanthropic endeavors! I encourage you to reach out to me if you want to get involved or if you have any ideas for how to make the chapter even more successful.
