At first, it was hard to imagine living with 30 other women that I didn't know well coming out of freshman year. But the insecurities and uneasiness vanished the second spirit week started. There was constantly a sister to study, laugh, cry or eat with and having that support was so beneficial through the ups and downs of college. On a Friday night, I would not only be able to get ready and have the time of my life with a group of sisters, but I would also be able to find a group of sisters to watch movies with in the infamous TV room. One of the best parts of the house is the newly remodeled living room in the main house. This is definitely the room I love to show off to our families and visiting friends. There were countless times I would walk past the living room, see a sister on the couch, and be there two hours later still chatting with her. All our informal meetings were done here and there was nothing better than looking around the gorgeous room on a sunny, bright day seeing everyone connect and bond about the past weekend or exciting new Pi Phi announcements. Non-live-ins used the chapter house frequently by coming to meals, staying after meetings to catch up with live-ins and studying after class in the card room or basement. It was great to have these times to connect with them and I know they enjoyed every moment they had in the house. There were several times live-outs would come for lunch and stay for hours catching up with friends! Walking into the Pi Phi house will always bring me gratitude and a smile. The cozy living room, unique bedrooms, kitchen and so many more elements truly create an atmosphere I can forever call my home! SE Alice Peterson '17 Shares Her Love of Sisterhood O n August 15 and September 28, Minnesota Alpha's Chapter House Corporation hosted Design Shines to share the progress of the remodel plans for chapter house and to meet Shea Architects. DESIGN SHINE 1 August 15 – Interlachen Country Club Participants gathered at the Interlachen Country Club to view the work that Shea Architects did for their aging but historic club house. With our almost 95-year-old house, CHC felt that Shea offered a unique service that could combine our history and the hospitality-type amenities that college students are offered all over campus now. We had a nice range of alumnae and actives represented with great feedback and questions about the future of the house. The plans were well received and the group seemed excited to help and hear more. DESIGN SHINE 2 September 28 – CoV Restaurant Shea Architects also designed the CoV restaurant space. CHC invited alumnae to brunch to view the design, meet Shea and hear the design direction. A smaller group joined us, but sisters provided lots of wonderful feedback and more commitments to help make these plans a reality. What CHC took from both these events was that our alumnae are excited to see us continue the legacy at 1109 Fifth St. SE. They understand the competitive nature for housing on campus and within the Greek system. Pi Phis have always been leaders and we want to continue being leaders in housing for our active members. Stay tuned for more event invitations and plan details. If you have any questions about the plans, process or how you can help, please reach out.
