page 3 alpha chi omega I couldn't be prouder to be the chapter president of Gamma Iota, especially after all the exciting happenings from the past year. Together, we accomplished great things, not only within our sisterhood, but within the UF community. Our executive board has worked extremely hard to make Alpha Chi Omega the best experience for everyone in the chapter and has motivated the women of Gamma Iota to become involved on campus and in the community. Alpha Chi Raises Over $59,000 at 25th Annual Dance Marathon Gamma Iota participated in the 25th annual Dance Marathon on March 23-24, 2019. University of Florida students came together to raise $3.23 million for patients of UF Health Shands Children's Hospital in Gainesville. Your undergraduate sisters at Gamma Iota raised about $59,700 toward the amazing cause. Several sisters took on huge positions within Dance Marathon, including Executive Director Madison Grasty '14, Productions Director Taylor Cavalerie '15, multiple assistant directors, captains, and emerging leaders. In all, we had 36 dancers participate in spreading awareness and dancing for the kids. Promoting Domestic Violence Awareness Gamma Iota has also been busy with various philanthropy events to spread awareness of domestic violence. More than 50 teams participated in our third annual Purple Rain five-on-five dodgeball tournament event last semester, raising more than $1,700 for Peaceful Paths, a local shelter for families affected by domestic violence. In addition to our philanthropy event, we promoted healthy relationships in the heart of campus as a part of Healthy Relationships Week in February. Finally, we recognized Denim Day in April by encouraging our peers to wear denim on campus and around the Gainesville community. This semester, we are excited to welcome the community to our first Cocoa with AXΩ. The fundraiser will include desserts and a hot chocolate bar at the chapter house to benefit Peaceful Paths. In addition, we will be participating in Domestic Violence Awareness Month by hosting a donation drive, tabling on campus, and leading a clean-up project at the Peaceful Paths shelter. Making a Difference Around the World Multiple Gamma Iota sisters became strong leaders on our campus through involvement with student senate, Gator Growl, preview staff, Junior Panhellenic, Order of Omega, Project Makeover, and numerous other organizations. We would like to congratulate Sawyer Carleton '16 and Taylor Cavalerie '15 for receiving the Florida Blue Key award this past spring. Lastly, a few of our sisters were selected to participate in the Circle of Sisterhood Senegal, Africa, trip to build schools and help remove barriers to education for girls. Sisterhood Sustains Us The women of Gamma Iota treasure time spent with sisters, whether through retreats or events that bring us closer together and create long- lasting memories. Last semester, sisters took a retreat to Universal Studio's Islands of Adventure, broke out of escape rooms together, sweated it out at a spin class, and laughed and cried during a private screening of Five Feet Apart. We also welcomed our moms to town to play bunco, bask in the sunrise, and create a wood project with us. The family-oriented events rolled over into the fall semester, as we enjoyed an amazing family weekend in September filled with Gator pride and a delicious brunch. To become a closer sisterhood, we started out the fall semester by going paintballing. The sisters of Gamma Iota hold these memories close to their hearts and will forever look back and smile thinking about the precious time they spent with their sisters. Our sisters truly embody the motto Real. Strong. Women., and we keep empowering one another to become the best Alpha Chi Omegas we can be.
