S ummer is always a busy time at the chapter house as we make updates and address typical maintenance issues to ensure we have a wonderful living environment for our sisters. This summer was no different! We replaced windows and blinds on the second floor and anticipate more extensive renovations on that floor next summer. We attended to some lawn and guttering issues, which we needed with the heavy rains we've been getting. We also had most of the public areas painted (light grey) and added some new décor. Please feel free to stop by the house when you are in town and take a look. We think you'll be pleased! We are looking for volunteers to serve with us on the house corporation board. It is very rewarding and important work as we try to keep our house in tip-top shape! Don't worry…it doesn't mean you have to be good with a hammer! Serving on the board generally involves attending a monthly meeting at the chapter house (you can even attend virtually if you live out of town). If this opportunity seems right for you, just email me at the address below. We would love to have you join us! Xi Chapter Kicks Off the Fall with Successful Recruitment W e are so excited to be back in Lawrence for a new semester at Sigma Kappa. We came back feeling better than ever with a couple new accomplishments under our belt. We received an honorable mention for the Lilian P. Budd Excellence in Service Award and raised our all-chapter GPA by another 0.03. Our pre-recruitment week began on August 11. Shelby Goetz '17, VP of Membership, planned an amazing week with workshops, circuits, and event and song practice. She also teamed up with Sisterhood Chairman Maya Gold '18 to bring us fun Minute to Win It games, bracelet making, an ice cream truck, and a cereal bar! We were honored to welcome family and alumnae back for our Mock Recruitment event. A very special thank-you to all who could come. Our members had the best time not only getting the important practice, but meeting you and learning your Sigma Kappa story. Recruitment took place the week of August 19, and all our hard work paid off when we got to welcome our incredible 2019 new member class on our diSKo-themed Bid Day. As always, we are thankful to our wonderful alumnae for all that they do. Thanks especially to the corporation board for helping keep the chapter house in beautiful and safe shape, and thanks to the advisory board for assisting the officers and attending chapter events!
