The main reason I chose to become an advisor is because I wanted to give back to the chapter. Sigma Kappa has had a huge impact on my personal and professional life, and I wanted to help the chapter do the same for other women. What is the best part about your role as president? I'm in my second year on the house corporation board and very much enjoy getting to know sisters on both the collegiate and alumnae side. We are such a diverse group, but everyone gets along so well. We really enjoy each other's company. I'd say the best part about my role is having the opportunity to continue being involved with the happenings at the chapter house. I also have two young daughters and they love going to "Sigma Kastle" with me. I've also been incredibly impressed by the collegiate women in the chapter and with the strong leadership skills that they exhibit. They make me so proud every day. Why should other alumnae become involved? Because it's fun! It's a way to stay involved and reminds me of the excitement of being in the sorority as a collegiate member. Most of my days center around my professional role and my role as a mom and a wife. It's nice to have an outlet that's very different from my typical day-to-day. Being involved has allowed me to get to know sisters I probably would not have met otherwise and to travel to new places to attend Sigma Kappa events. I attended National Convention in 2018 and the National Housing Convention in 2019. Both were super fun trips and wonderful bonding experiences with my sisters. Vice President Susan Rose '86 Why did you choose to become an alumnae advisor? I recently returned to Florida after being out of the state for almost 14 years. One of the things I wanted to do once we relocated was to reconnect with Beta Tau. Joining the house corporation board allows me to work with Beta Tau, the national house corporation board, and all the amazing women who are part of these organizations! What is the best part about your role as vice president? There are two best parts of being on the house corporation board. First, the collegiate leadership is extraordinary! I worked with college students in my previous position for the last decade, so I knew that college students are underestimated in their abilities. However, this executive council has knocked my socks off with their professionalism, follow through, dedication, and execution. The bonus to being on the house corporation board is that I have reconnected with Janine Sherman Ball '86, who is serving as the treasurer. Why should other alumnae become involved? Yes, it is some work and it takes some dedicated time, but it is also rewarding in the relationships being made within the chapter and being able to reconnect with sisters. I'd be happy to talk to you if you are curious about serving with the chapter in some capacity! Secretary Jennifer Taylor '12 Why did you choose to become an alumnae advisor? I chose to become an alumnae advisor to give back to the organization that has given me so much. My college experience would not have been the same without Sigma Kappa. Our sisterhood helped make my time at UF amazing. I hope I can be a small part of the reason other women feel the same. What is the best part about your role as secretary? My favorite part of my role as secretary is keeping everything organized. I'm very detail-oriented and appreciate when things are clear and efficient. Why should other alumnae get involved? Other alumnae should be involved because we have a lot of fun! I had never met my fellow board members until this past April, and I feel like I've known them forever. It's so much fun sharing our different experiences while using the results of that discussion to help make important decisions! It is a great platform to connect and reconnect with sisters.
