H ousing and maintenance costs have also continued to climb in the tide of rising college expenses. While the Alpha Sigma experience is certainly more than the bricks and mortar of the chapter house, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role in the development of our brothers and as a proud symbol of our shared values and goals. Built in 1961, 1317 Fredonia Ave. has been a part of Alpha Sigma's legacy for 58 years and is showing its age. Aer having recently paid off the primary mortgage, money has been invested into continuous improvement and maintenance projects that have been completed over the past few years. ere is still work to be done to ensure that eta Xi continues to offer a safe and competitive home for our members. keeping OUr BrOtherS SAFe e safety of our collegiate members is of utmost importance to the Alpha Sigma Association; we must offer a structurally sound and safe home for our collegians. In the past five years, over $51,000 has been put into the current facility to ensure general upkeep and 4 small improvement projects. Projects such as a new fire alarm system, two new A/C units, replacing doors in the front and back foyer, and replacing the front, two-story metal frame and windows have all made improvements to the safety of the house. Much like our personal homes, our chapter house must be a haven that instills confidence in our members and their parents. Sigma Chi hOUSing And COmpetitiOn Setting OUrSelveS ApArt While eta Xi continues to attract some of the top men on campus, we know that there is potential for losing quality prospective members to other fraterni- ties and housing options that offer better facilities. Recently, Sigma Chi built a new chapter house and Sigma Nu is in the middle of a campaign. Other housed fraternities on campus are discussing potential campaign projects. Collegiate housing in residence halls and off-campus apartments have also stepped up their game and increased amenities available to the average college student. eta Xi must be prepared with the necessary funds to meet the continuous needs of chapter facility improvement and be proactively looking at opportunities to provide safe and affordable housing for its members.
