Steve Rulli said they produce 1,000-2,000 bottles a month and sell wine both by the glass and the bottle at their location. "We're truly a small-batch cra winery," he said. Rockfish Creek doesn't use sweet muscadine grapes that are native to this area of North Carolina. Other larger wineries in the region "have that market locked up," Kim Rulli said. Wendy Mills was already a fan of Rockfish Creek when she was given the winemaking class as a birthday present. Accompanied by her mother, Barbara Meek, Mills mixed together the ingredients for a batch of tempranillo, the Spanish grape version of cabernet sauvignon and sipped glasses of Raeford Sunset, one of Rockfish Creek's wines. "It was fun," she said. "I love the Sunset but they don't offer that as a class." Dearing also enjoyed the class and said he had a label in mind for his nascent Riesling. It would read: "Pretty Good Wine – has some alcohol in it too." He took a sip from a glass of Rockfish Creek wine and smiled. It was, he said, not just pretty good, but really good.
