What kind of community do people with faith imagine? It's the one we will work for. We're a long way from a tossed salad community, even if God intends it. But in the meantime, we might remember Chef Guy Fieri's insight that all around the world, no matter what culture, people get together to eat. Who's welcome at your table? Are our meals always a gathering of "likes" or, to quote a writer I like, are they sometimes a "fellowship of differents"? ere are few things more necessary than eating or more fundamental, and transformational, than who we eat with. at was one of the greatest secrets of Jesus' ministry. (Isaiah 25:6) Well, foodies, it appears the future belongs to you. Tossed salad has been replaced by good wine and prime meat. But instead of being on the menu the tossed salad has become the people at the table. It's a feast of rich food for all peoples. For now, I'll order the salad. Faith sees in it more than a meal.
