DELTA TAU DELTA D espite graduating many years ago, the brothers of Delta Alpha remain an important part of life for Milo Johnson '71. He will forever be grateful for the brotherhood and strong support system he found within Delta Tau Delta. More than 50 years of membership later, Milo has never lost touch with his Delt brothers. Milo joined Delta Alpha in the fall of 1967 after transferring from Cameron Junior College. "When Peter McCarter '67 and Clark Musser '67 gave me my bid I was almost moved to tears," Milo said. While living on campus, Milo quickly discovered that Delta Alpha was considered one of the top fraternities on campus. They were first in grades and intramural football, making Delta Alpha the bar that other fraternities were trying to reach. "Everyone wanted to be a Delt," Milo stated. "If they didn't want to be a Delt, we didn't want them!" There was a real sense of camaraderie among Milo and his Delt brothers, as they were all dedicated to keeping Delta Alpha the top chapter on campus. Through his commitment to the chapter's success, Milo was elected treasurer during his last year living in the chapter house. After graduating with a bachelor of business administration degree, Milo went to the Army for four years to fulfill his ROTC scholarship. Upon completion of his time with the Army, Milo contacted one of his Delt brothers, Bob Cochran '69, who was working in banking. Their Delt bond and Milo's experience as treasurer for Delta Alpha landed him a job. "It sounds philosophical," Milo shared, "but make the most of your friendships. Your brothers will be your friends for the rest of your lives, and if you're like me, you may end up working with them." Now that Milo is semi-retired, he has had more time to reflect on what the Delt brotherhood means to him. His Delta Alpha brothers have remained one of his largest support groups, even as many of them have now retired. "I'm 71 years old," Milo said, "and as we enter these later stages of our lives it's nice to have Delt brothers to reach out to who are going through similar issues." One of the brothers in his class recently entered a memory care facility, and Milo was happy to see many brothers banding together in support. Even though the Shelter was completely renovated 20 years ago, Milo and his brothers still feel at home with Delta Alpha. Alumni gather for the annual Oklahoma versus Texas football game at the Shelter, and Milo is looking forward to being in Norman again this year. If you would like to talk more with Milo about his Delta Alpha memories or Sooner football, he can be reached at milomikejohnson@yahoo.com. Delts Support Delts Why Delta Alpha Remains among Biggest Support Groups for Milo Johnson '71 W e are thankful to the many Delts who keep up with the chapter and our historical Shelter. As you may know, the House Corporation has hired Elevate IMS, a consulting firm with specialized knowledge of Greek house corporations and alumni, to manage our alumni communications program and conduct a feasibility study to explore the potential interest and support among our alumni. This will help us better understand how much we might raise over the course of a multi- year, formal campaign, so we can secure the future of our chapter. Thank you in advance for contributing and for providing us with feedback on our proposed fundraising campaign. After the results of the study are compiled, the House Corporation will report back to our alumni base with our projected plan. In the weeks to come, the firm's team will be reaching out to many of you to ask about your experience with Delta Tau Delta, and to ask for feedback on the contemplated project. Please take the time to respond and help us manage and cultivate our resources for the future Delt generations. If you have questions regarding the campaign or want to know how you help, please contact our account manager, Haley Chrismon, at (607) 533-9600 ext. 30328 or hchrismon@elevateims.com. Stay tuned for more information this fall during a football weekend! Feasibility Study Underway We Need Your Input!
