Delta Alpha Chapter I Delta Tau Delta Fraternity I University of Oklahoma I Fall 2019 Sooner Delt The I n two years, Delta Alpha will celebrate its 100th year on campus! Nine other fraternities have been on the OU campus 100 years or more. Of those nine, five have left OU and returned. Through it all, Delta Alpha has remained a presence at OU and continues to push toward history. Delta Alpha maintains a positive influence on young men at OU and finds the best and the brightest to carry on the legacy left by pledge classes before. We need you to help continue the excellence that we've been known for these past 98 years. BID DAY The beginning of the 2019-20 school year was successful for Delta Alpha. The recruitment team worked hard all last spring and this summer. Thanks to their efforts, we welcomed 53 new pledges! We are very excited to welcome these young men and walk with them on their journey. ALUMNI AND BROTHERHOOD EVENTS Once again, the Delts will host a tailgate at the Shelter. This year's tailgate will take place on September 28 for the Texas Tech game. Please join your Delt brothers for food and drink and get to know the member class of 2019. The spring semester will also be loaded with Delt events. Founders' Day will be the 98th birthday celebration of Delta Alpha, and I look forward to seeing some great local alumni that have remained active in the growth of the fraternity at the Founders' Day dinner. We would love to see a record number of alumni return to Norman to celebrate Delta Alpha closing in on 100 years at OU! The annual Alumni Golf Tournament will take place in April, and we look forward to swinging the sticks and sharing stories with actives and alumni. BROTHERS NEEDED! The membership of Delta Alpha needs you! The House Corporation is looking for more volunteers for its board of directors; the HC is vital to the success of the chapter. The members of the board meet once a month to discuss ongoing goals and any business matters that need to be addressed. If you are looking to help Delta Alpha by serving, please contact Mike Johnston '88 at mjohnston@gobaker. com. Under Mike's leadership, the House Corporation has flourished and continues to be a guiding light for the executive team of Delta Alpha. Mike has been the driving force on the renovations of the Shelter, the ASC creation, and the Alumni Advisory Committee. We all would like to thank him for his continued service and efforts to Delta Alpha. The Alumni Supervisory Committee was formed in 2017 to help guide Delta Alpha and its membership and influence the incoming pledge classes. I am proud to say that under the leadership of Matt Akins '13 and Jim Gregory '69, the ASC has continued to mentor and provide advice to the membership of the chapter. As we transition, an Alumni Advisory Committee has been formed to focus on academics and the success of the membership at OU. Jay H. Davis '92 has stepped up to fill the role of chapter advisor. He and his committee members will work to build a closer relationship with the undergraduate officers, both mentoring the officers and helping develop the incoming pledge class into outstanding Delts. If you would like to volunteer on the AAC and help mentor the membership on the importance of academics, please contact Jay at davisj001@gmail.com. Now, more than ever, More Delt, Less Self!
