STAR The newsletter for alumnae and friends of Sigma Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign sigmaofadpi.com From the Desk of the Housing Corporation President I hope you have all had a great summer. We have been wrapping up a great summer at the ADPi house and are looking forward to another wonderful year. This year, Alpha Delta Pi did not hold District Leadership Conference, to which we typically send a housing corporation representative. However, that presented an even better opportunity for our treasurer, Jana Mitchell, to go to Grand Convention. She was able to attend housing corporation sessions and other events. We look forward to incorporating what Jana learned into our structure. Updates for the house this year have included new air conditioning and heating units, as well as a new boiler. We met on April 13 for both our annual meeting and a board meeting. We discussed roofing projects and updating exterior painting, both of which have been underway this summer. We continue to change the way meals are provided for chapter members. Our goal is to create the most fiscally responsible way to provide meals, but also to encourage and maximize the time members can enjoy meals together while creating space for those that do not live in the house to get to know their sisters. The chapter also updated the house rules, which were reviewed and approved by the board. We look forward to seeing all of you at Homecoming! The board will hold a meeting on Sunday, October 20. If you are interested in serving on the board, please contact me or attend the meeting in October. We will have terms coming to completion for some members this year and would love to have new additions join us. If you are unable to serve, please know you are welcome to come by the house for the events and say hello! See you this fall! Pi Love, Anna Miller '08 House Corporation President anna11388@gmail.com Fall 2019 SIGMA Laura Landberg Rush '88 STILL lives in Geneva, Ill. She never left her hometown and for the last 10 years Laura has worked as a cheerleader for Geneva at the Chamber of Commerce as communications manager. She and her husband, Rick, are empty nesters. Their daughter, Megan, graduated in 2018 from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and enjoyed her time there so much, she now works as an admissions counselor for Drake while working on her master's in communications, just like her mom. Derik will graduate from the University of Iowa in 2020 and further his education at law school. Both were involved in the Greek system at their schools and had great experiences. Both Rick and Laura stay busy with their two golden retrievers, traveling to Iowa, and fitting in a few trips to warm places during the year. Recently, Laura returned to U of I, after 15 years, and visited ADPi. All the women were gracious, and the memories came flooding back— especially when she found the alumnae closet used as an ironing room when she was there. She was met with many awards and pictures but couldn't leave without getting a picture of her brick in the front. Laura has kept in contact with Dina Boxser Craigie, Sharon Slawinski Williams, and Sandy Ohlhaber Rempe, but would love to see and hear from more sisters in the alumnae online directory. If you are ever in Geneva, stop by Geneva Chamber and say hi. Katie Woods '06 and family have had a lot of changes within the past year! They welcomed their son, James, on March 13, 2018, and baby number two is due December 2019. Also, to make room for their quickly growing family, they moved in July to a new home in Palatine, Ill. "We are loving every minute of all these life changes!" Katie said. Alumnae Updates Laura Landberg Rush '88 snaps a shot of her brick at the chapter house.
