GAMMA PHI BETA 3 G amma Phi Beta was somewhat of a family tradition for Judy Haverfield Beaupre '66, so when her time came, Gamma Phi Beta was an easy choice. She followed her mother, former Grand President Betty Luker Haverfield '39, and aunt, in Gamma Phi sisterhood. Her mother's Gamma Phi story is an important part of Judy's own Gamma Phi experience. When Judy joined Alpha Delta, her mother was editor of The Crescent, a job she held for 10 years. Betty was then elected and installed as Grand President in 1974, Gamma Phi's centennial year. According to Judy, her mother cherished her work with Gamma Phi, especially traveling around the country to install new chapters and meet sisters from all corners of the nation. Betty was elected to a second term in 1976, but sadly passed away after a courageous battle with breast cancer before she could complete her term. "When she died, all the florist shops in mid-Missouri ran out of pink carnations as sisters and chapters from around the country sent their condolences," Judy recalled. The Campaign for 808 Richmond was a perfect way to honor her mother's Gamma Phi Beta legacy. Through Judy's generous donation, the Betty Luker Haverfield Lounge was dedicated in memory of her mother. "She gave so much of herself to Gamma Phi that I believe she deserves that recognition. But I also believe in the project. I'm proud of how Gamma Phi has changed with the times and how Alpha Delta has thrived." As the capital campaign continues toward the $615,000 goal, Judy hopes many of her sisters will join her in donating to this important cause. "There's a bit of all of us in that house—I would encourage all of my sisters to give back a little to this project." Judy lives in Chicago and has a daughter, Becky, and son, Peter. You can connect with her at jhbeaupre@yahoo.com. Fast Facts: • Her daughter, Becky Beaupre Gillespie, was a Gamma Phi at Northwestern University. • In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and photography. • Favorite Alpha Delta memories: Sisters who would become lifelong friends, Dad's and Mom's Weekends, singing "Remember Gamma Phi" at the senior banquet. • Serves on the House Corporation at Epsilon Chapter, Northwestern University. A Gamma Phi Tradition Campaign Donor Judy Haverfield Beaupre '66 Reflects on Her Mother's Legacy Judy Haverfield Beaupre '66 and her mother, Betty Luker Haverfield '39, at Mom's Weekend in 1967. S helley Pulliam Roither '85 knows it takes a village, or a sisterhood, to accomplish the important goal of raising $615,000 to renovate and expand Alpha Delta's beloved chapter house. "Alpha Delta was always, and still is, one of the strongest sororities at Mizzou, and to stay at the top, we need to invest substantially in the chapter house," she stated. "Without the alumnae, this would not be possible. We need to invest in this chapter—and give back—in appreciation of the ones who came before us and gave of their time, talent, and financial support, and in appreciation of the ones yet to come." Like many alumnae, Alpha Delta provided Shelley opportunities that made for an even richer college experience. "I would not be who I am today had I not joined Alpha Delta," she said. "It provided me with life and leadership experiences that have served as the foundation of my life today. I learned important life and career skills, often without even realizing it." Through her contribution to It's Our House! The Campaign for 808 Richmond, Shelley hopes to help solidify Alpha Delta's future at Mizzou, "So when my great-great-great-grandbabies become Tigers, they will look at that house and chapter with the same pride I do today." She also hopes her support of the campaign will provide younger Gamma Phi sisters with the same experiences she received thanks to alumnae who passed through Alpha Delta Chapter before her. "My sisters in Alpha Delta have been my rocks throughout life—they are there with me for my celebrations, my trials, and my sorrows," she said. "When you are an active, you sometimes can't see beyond the college experience, but when you are older, you truly see and experience the value, love, and strength that you get from your network of Gamma Phi sisters." While Shelley is proud of her membership in Gamma Phi, she is most proud of her three children and the life she has built with her husband. They have two sons and a daughter: their oldest son graduated from Mizzou and is in his final year of law school at the University of Dayton, Ohio; their youngest son is a senior at Mizzou studying political science; and their daughter, Lauren Roither '18, is a pre- nursing sophomore at Mizzou and followed Shelley's footsteps to Alpha Delta.
