A Β Γ Δ Ε Ζ Η Θ Ι Κ Λ Μ Ν Ξ O P Ρ ΣΤ ΥΦ Χ Ψ Ω the Fraternity and Sorority Preserving the Greek experience for 4 PoLiticAL AFFAirs committee uPdAte T he Political Affairs Committee has focused on identifying members of Congress who are Greek and reaching out to them to gauge their interest in and support for our issues. The committee also continues to watch for other members of Congress who share our concerns for fraternity and sorority students and want to align with us in our efforts. In April, the committee's recommendations for contributions to numerous members of Congress were approved by the full board. Attention was paid to the special election taking place in North Carolina's 3rd district where state legislator Dr. Greg Murphy, KA Order, beat out Dr. Joan Perry, ΔΔΔ, for the Republican nomination. Ultimately, we chose to support both Republican candidates. The general election will take place in early September. It is a solidly Republican district, and we have met with Dr. Murphy to outline and discuss our issues, of which he is supportive. Committee members have attended various events hosted by Congressional members in the House and Senate on both sides of the aisle and have had numerous conversations addressing our issues, especially the Collegiate Freedom of Association Act, which has been introduced in the House of Representatives with bipartisan backing. While we appreciate the support it has received in the House (25 sponsors as of this writing), we are continuing to look for a lead sponsor in the Senate. Ben Satcher, KA Order FSPAC Vice President-Political Affairs Donations Needed to Meet 2019 Fundraising Goal The FSPAC passed $4 million in lifetime funds raised! In 2019, we have raised $494,000 so far and more dollars will come in from the well-attended Indianapolis reception. This represents our single biggest year ever, but we need more help. Our goal for 2019 is $625,000. While we have a small amount of 2019 pledges outstanding, what's going to put us over the top are an excellent turnout at our Dallas reception and an expansion of our donor base. Furthermore, we are asking every FSPAC member organization to find 20 new donors between now and the end of the year. In doing so, we would not only generate additional donations but also, and most importantly, increase our donor pool for future years by over 500. With several critically important pieces of legislation active in Congress and the 2020 election on the horizon, we must have the support and commitment of as many fraternity men and sorority women as possible. To do that, we need you to engage in this year-end push for 2019. Can we count on you? Mike Greenberg, ΣΧ FSPAC Vice President-Fundraising FSPAC Board Hosts Event for Donors in Indianapolis O n August 12, FSPAC hosted a donor event for 100 Indianapolis-area supporters at the Downtown Marriott Hotel. The gathering took place in conjunction with the North American Interfraternity Conference Meeting of Members and the Foundation for Fraternal Excellence Seminar. Representative Susan Brooks (R-IN/AOP) was in attendance and addressed the crowd, along with FSPAC's Howard Pickett, Kevin O'Neill and Mike Greenberg. Kevin O'Neill gave a brief update on legislative matters happening in Washington, D.C., as well as an update on the litigation against Harvard University.
