6 | r e d f c u.o r g Deck the halls: Light up your entryway. Fill canning jars halfway with Epsom salt for a snowy look, and then set a small tea light on top. Arrange these homemade lanterns near your front door before party guests arrive. Make tables "present"-able. Wrap a few empty boxes (food boxes work well) of various sizes with wrapping paper, tie them together in an attractive stack with ribbon and arrange them on a dining or hallway table, fireplace mantel, etc. For extra panache, you can set them on a brightly colored platter and arrange ornaments all around. Make their season bright: Do something "scent"-sational. Fill a canning jar with fragrant fruits, spices and herbs that your recipients can add to simmering water on their stove. Whether you choose ingredients for spiced citrus, fresh pine, apple cinnamon or another aroma, their homes will smell like the holidays. Give them a sign. Use white paint and an inexpensive stencil to add their name or your favorite holiday saying to a wooden palette. Fun Fall Décor Transform an old serving tray, picture frame or mirror from a thrift store into a hanging chalkboard for fall greetings, a gratitude list or even the Turkey Day menu. Coat the bottom of the tray or the inside of the frame/mirror with chalkboard paint (you may need to do a primer coat first), and hang inside or outside. To get spookier for Halloween: • Decorate liquid hand soap by dropping in little plastic pumpkins, eyeballs or spiders. (Stir with skewers to suspend them.) • Turn white-tissue-paper wedding bells into ghosts – drape them with cheesecloth and add paper eyes and mouths. Oh, What Fun It Is to SAVE With DIY Holiday Décor and Gifts Making your own holiday decorations and gifts can be fun and save you some money. Plus, there are few things more thoughtful than something homemade. Try these easy and inexpensive projects!
