Kim Lamb is a Redstone
member who went to
St. Vincent for help with
her payday loan debt.
"e people with St. Vincent
de Paul helped me get through
a rough time," Lamb says. "As
we looked at ways to improve
my money situation, they
recommended the Loan Saver
Program at Redstone. e
program has given me a way to
pay off the original loan while
also saving me money. I'm now
saving for a car that will use
less gas and need fewer repairs."
Lamb encourages others drowning in payday loan debt to reach out for help.
"Don't ever give up," she says. "Ask churches for help; then follow their advice. My life is
better. I feel better since working with St. Vincent de Paul and Redstone."
Anyone can request assistance through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. No religious
affiliation is required. A call to a local Catholic parish starts the process. Volunteers
then meet with the applicant at their home, often bringing food to address the family's
immediate need. is visit also provides a time for fellowship while learning the extent of
the family's financial situation. e volunteers then work as a team to create an action plan
that helps produce short- and long-term wins.
e Loan Saver Program is an
important tool in achieving
that long-term financial
success by helping to break the
cycle of payday lending.
